Summary
I'm cornered. I'll never be able to look the people I've failed to protect in the eye. My allies will end up in prison or exile, my research... in fire.
When the plague was cured, the Polyhedron destroyed, and the Haruspex victorious, Daniil Dankovsky did not remain in the town on the Gorkhon. Instead, wise to his presence and determined for retribution, the Inquisitor and the Army brought him back to the capital to be tried for his research—for crimes against natural reality, and therefore against the Powers That Be. After a year in prison, he has at last been sentenced to death... and there is only so long one man can fight against fate before he finally submits to the inevitable.
Artemy Burakh has no intention of letting that happen.

Summary
The Town and the Kin, an Odongh had once whispered, were sewn together wrong. The plague had torn those old connections apart, and it was left to Artemy Burakh to suture the severed halves back together in a better way. Blood could, and would, flow through them as one common body. And it would, and must, start with solidarity.
This, too, could be its own form of utopia.

In which Artemy unionises the Termitary workers, organises a strike, and finds a new way to unite the Town.

Summary
September hangs golden over the steppe. The last rays of sun are a brittle haze shimmering over the rippling grasses, gauzy, ethereal.
It’s not the landscape you remember from the days of the sand pest. It’s been four years since then, almost to the day. It's been with you constantly, but the thoughts loom tall now, more difficult to push aside than usual. It makes sense, you think. You are, after all, on a train going back to ground zero, to the wretched place where it happened.
You're still not sure what's possessed you to make this trip. This town makes you do irrational things, Bachelor Dankovsky. But as time passes, you would like to see what it’s made of itself in the wake of the sand pest. And maybe that will put some of your own lingering demons to rest, as well.
