Summary
“I just don’t understand,” Charles says, rubbing his cheek against the sheets. “I did nothing wrong, it’s not my fault he turned into me! It was very mean that they booed me.”
If anyone had the right to be upset, it’s Checo. Charles knows better than most the bitter disappointment of not winning his home race. But Checo had been very clear in his interviews that it wasn’t Charles fault, that he hadn’t seen Max, that he’d gone for the gap and that was on him, not Charles.
“It’s very disrespectful,” Max agrees quietly.
Charles opens his eyes to look at Max, at the way he’s frowning down at the sheets himself now.
He groans. “You must think I’m so stupid. People are so mean to you everywhere. The booing and chanting through the anthem last week was so terrible, and here I am complaining about one stupid—”
“I’ve gotten used to it now,” Max says, but Charles thinks that he wouldn’t look so sad if that were true. “But I cried for three days the first time it happened.”
// Charles is upset about being booed in Mexico. Max attempts to cheer him up.
The key word, of course, being attempts.

Summary
It all started with a crash.
Well, technically, it started with a blue-eyed boy with blonde hair getting screamed at in a language he couldn’t understand when he was only 8 years old. He remembered looking at the boy, who couldn’t be much older than himself - (two weeks older, to be exact, he’d learn later) - and watching the spark disappear right out of those icy blue eyes.
That was the first memory Charles Leclerc had of Max Verstappen: Watching Jos Verstappen, Max’s own father, scream at this 8 year old child with an intensity that turned his face red and made every blood vessel in his neck look dangerously close to bursting.
But if anyone ever were to ask Charles when he started to realize that his feelings towards that same Max Verstappen he had known since childhood had begun to change into something else, something bigger, something terrifying he couldn’t - or wouldn’t - quite put his finger on, he would say that it all started with a crash.
Because of fucking course it did.

Summary
Charles sighed as he leaned back into his seat.
He chewed on his bottom lip and let his eyes flick around the cabin. There wasn’t much movement since they had been in flight for so long. The meals had already been served, and he was pretty sure everybody was sleeping or busy watching a movie.
Charles glanced up at the small lavatory sign on the ceiling, noticing it was unoccupied.
Interesting.

Summary
He stops dead at the picture of Charles, shooting upright on the lounge, dislodging Sassy in the process. She hisses loudly at him and darts off, but Max isn’t concerned with that.
Because Charles fucking Leclerc has cut his hair off.
The photo is just a fan picture of Charles in a suit at a gala of some variety—an unimportant detail—and he looks great in the suit, crisp and blue, a black turtleneck underneath. Handsome, one might objectively describe it as. Sexy, a girl, gay, or Italian man would say. Not Max, of course, because he’s above that, but. Somebody else might describe it that way.
The sides are just gone, shaved short and gone. The top is still as long and fluffy as ever, styled very nicely but the sides.
The sides, Max laments.
He looks stupid. It’s terrible. Max hates it with a fiery, visceral passion. He knows there is no way Pascale Leclerc did that to her son. She would have stopped him from looking like some kind of dapper, handsome—
She would have stopped it, is the point.
Maybe it’s just the lighting, Max reasons frantically.
