Summary
Zeus did not strike Athena down in a fit of rage. No. He had been king for eons - he did not act with such wanton disregard. He wanted her to know the full cost of defiance. He would not be overthrown. He would have obedience.
That is why he made sure every god knew that if any of them attempted to help her, he would reinjure Athena and grant the offender the same punishment.
That is why he waited for Athena to wake before telling her, in no uncertain terms, that if she ever told any mortal of the events that transpired that night, he would strike them down without mercy.Athena quickly realizes what this meant: she would put her entire family at risk by being near them. And if she attempted to make a much-needed apology to Odyssues, he would surely pry the truth out of her, and his death may as well have been at her hands. (She cannot kill another friend.)
