“And how,” Keith says, drawing Lance out of his thoughts, “would you know if I’m single?”
The noise that falls out of Lance’s mouth is a mix between a snort and a scoff, and it comes totally unbidden. Two years ago, he would’ve been mortified to be caught making such an unattractive sound in Keith’s company. But, two years ago, he thought he and Keith were becoming something.
And approximately ten months ago, when they fell into bed together, he was certain they would. He’d asked, even. Tangled up in bedsheets, heart full and warm and satisfied, he’d asked Keith if they were something.
The next day, when he woke up alone with a hastily-written sticky note on the bathroom mirror and an alert in the group that the Blade had summoned Keith in the middle of the night, Lance got his answer.
He’d been mistaken, obviously.

OR: after 10 months no-contact, Lance and Keith find themselves in the same roadside bar. Which could mean nothing, surely.

Cecil feels his stomach clench in apprehension as he looks at the Mark through grainy security footage. Hands behind his head and expression perfectly calm surrounded by reanimen.
No yelling, no cocky smirk, no crazy eyes.
There's also none of the anxiety or anger or any of the complicated array of emotions that Cecil is used to seeing on those features. Just the sort of calm confidence that stems from the complete and utter certainty that he’s the strongest person in the room. Cecil is intimately familiar with that look, since he used to see it all the time.

Or: MasklessMark isn't evil and he wants to stay. Complicated, heart-wrenching, and sometimes funny things result from this choice.

Summary
Lance is hit by an alien's attack, and somehow ends up not with an agonizing death or being fatally poisoned, but with the ability to read minds. Except, he can only hear the things people think of him. And not only that, but he can feel their emotions towards him, as well as see visions or images they think about him as well.
Of course, this would be amazingly cool, if not for the fact that it's how Lance finds out that Keith is in love with him.
Now Lance has to navigate all of those burning thoughts while coming to focus with his own emotions for Keith. But it's hard to do that very thing when all your thoughts are taken up by another's.

Keith wasn't sure how it had been Ten years since the war ended. But somehow he'd let time slip away from him. The Paladins, Zarkon, Voltron, were all just a memory now. But there were some memories he still couldn't bring himself to let go of.
Ten years after the war, the universe comes together to celebrate a new era of hope, progress, and prosperity. Keith is contractually obligated to attend. It might change the course of his life forever.
