The Master’s daughter was a major point of pride with him, anyone who knew him could tell you that. He managed to find a way to bring her up in any conversation, whether it was while grocery shopping or while he was on trial. ((Of course, he seemed to go deaf and rather angry when one would ask about her mother, but the Doctor tended to warn people about this beforehand to ensure this was not a common occurrence.))
It was no surprise, then, with all the talk about how bright and clever she was, that she received a letter accepting her into the Academy—no surprise to anyone, that is, except the Master.
