“Please don’t- I’m sorry- I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it, don’t- don’t leave me alone, don’t leave me!”
Hikaru’s chest aches. It burns. It’s a distant sort of pain, nothing physical. It’s a pain he hasn’t felt since he first granted the original Hikaru’s request, since he felt the lingering pain in the humans’ chest as he took his body.
He thinks he knows what it is now.
Maybe leaving Yoshiki behind will be his true way of finding happiness. It goes against everything he was made for, but it’s all Hikaru can hope for as he fades, his crushed core laid out in his lap.
“S’ry, Y’shi,” Hikaru mumbles, “L’ve ya.”

Or, the stabbing scene goes wrong and ‘Hikaru’ accidentally rips his core out too violently. He dies.
But death is nothing but a transition, and there’s another boy on his deathbed with a wish.
That boy is Jason Todd.
