She leans forward and presses her nose to the glass. “Katie baby,” she says proudly.
“Yes, my love, that is you,” Henry murmurs, brushing a kiss to the back of her towel-covered head. “The most brilliant little duck there ever was.”
Two-year-old Katie is freshly bathed, wrapped in her favorite duck towel, and absolutely full of quacks. Henry holds her up to the bathroom mirror and Alex catches it on video. Both of them are hopelessly, stupidly gone for their giggling, babbling little duckling.
Or: soft, domestic Firstprince fluff on a quiet weeknight, complete with bath time shenanigans and more love than what should fit in one brownstone bathroom.

Summary
It has been three years since they were outted and Henry and Alex have finally settled into a groove that works well for them, except for the fact that it feels like they're always having to steal time together. Queen Mary constantly coming up with excuses to get Henry out of public events with Alex isn't helping, and Alex is done with it. After a long conference in Tokyo that Henry couldn't attend, Alex's flight home being delayed is the last straw and he calls Henry to say they need to figure out a better way to do this, to which Henry agrees. But fate has other ideas. Alex's flight goes missing somewhere over the Pacific, no trace of it to be found, leaving Henry and Alex's family struggling to not lose hope while unable to do anything.

Henry smiles sheepishly at her. “I’m doing my best, June. Thank you so much for coming over. I know it’s a long trip.”
“Hey, we said to call when you want us. Everyone’s still by the phone waiting for the invite.”
“I know, he just…he hasn’t really been up for company.”
June sighs softly. “I noticed at the hospital he didn’t seem…well, he wasn’t how I expected him to be. It’s getting worse?”
“Yes. He just won’t talk to me about it.”
Alex realizes, with a bitter taste filling his mouth, that they’re talking about him.
