Summary
Togame’s slow languid movements give Haruka plenty of time to register what’s happening, if not why: Togame slides an arm casually, slowly, around Haruka’s shoulders. He pulls him in a little, a gentle squeeze. Haruka gasps, the fabric of Togame’s shirt fluttering in front of him. The hand slides up from Haruka’s shoulders and into his hair, tousling it gently.
Then the whole process happens in reverse, just as slowly: his hand slides down, back, and Togame leans away, smiling contentedly like nothing strange just happened.
Haruka finds himself getting closer to Togame. Mostly literally.

Summary
It’s not the first time Haruka’s woken up lying in the street, head pounding and vision swimming—but it’s strange waking up to concerned faces hovering over him. Faces he thinks he might know, if only they’d stay still. If only the light wasn’t so dazzlingly bright.
Haruka's been hit on the head plenty of times. This one proves harder to shake off.

Summary
It’s like someone’s opened a door, and things Haruka hasn’t thought about in months or years are flooding through it. A strain of music, the fall of someone’s hair, a snatch of voices, and all of a sudden Haruka’s underwater. Too stunned to even claw for the surface.
Haruka keeps seeing things, remembering things. Things he can't talk about yet. But that doesn't mean he has to be alone.

Summary
After the war, after the Kamunabi, Togo’s life settles into a rhythm. He takes jobs that keep the lights on, jobs he thinks might make the world a little less frightening for some kid or another out there. He scratches little wounds in the belly of the underworld, then watches them scab over and reform.
And in between, he stops by the Rokuhira’s. A house sealed in amber on the mountainside, a home that isn’t his. He watches Chihiro grow up, watches him become a person. He lets the tide carry him in and back out.

Summary
Nalis had not felt the weight of his own omissions so keenly since he had heard secondhand, weeks after his recovery, that the Archduke Maia’s entire household had been lost to plague, and that he was presumed as dead as they were– that he was missing, and that perhaps there would be a reward if he were found, and that there were men venturing into the Edonara to trawl for his corpse.
The fact that Prince Idra had made the order a request– that he’d clearly realized he had no real recourse against Nalis if he refused–
Csevet was visibly horrified, stifling himself from correcting the emperor’s phrasing. Nalis caught his eye, trying to seem loyal and reassuring, and said to Prince Idra, “Serenity, we are entirely at your service.”

Summary
Csethiro broke abruptly free of the pack and came sweeping towards him with hands outstretched, probably hoping to do damage control.
“Serenity,” she said, ignoring her father, who seemed to be wanting to prompt her like a conductor. “We are honoured to have you here.”
Maia had very little experience with the specific social mortifications of an embarrassing family— his own having simply chosen to forget he existed— and it wouldn’t have been fair to make a judgement, but there was already an undeniable tinge of the ridiculous to the entire affair.(Awkward dinners are part and parcel of the Emperor's role... but the Ceredada really are spectacularly embarrassing.)

Summary
"No doubt thou didst melt the seal open on the steam vents to read the business of thy betters, planned how thou wouldst ingratiate thyself with the Archduke— oh yes, we know thy tricks…”
Not the steam vents, thinks Csevet. It would wet the paper. The hot pipes, yes— but not the vents. He would only use a steam vent if he wanted to bleed the ink onto the external sheet and claim inclement weather, and that almost never can be gotten away with inside the court.
Captain Orthema is saying Lord Chavar, leave Mer Aisava, but Csevet knows Chavar will not move for love or money now, not until he has said his piece.

Summary
“Aha!” Csethiro sat up, displacing him somewhat abruptly. “Thou dost admit it, then!”
“Admit what?” said Maia bewilderedly, trying to sit up—
“That ‘tis my job to hate people on thy behalf,” said Csethiro magnificently, with a rather intense look in her eye that Maia did not entirely trust, even if he did rather like it.
“I did not… quite say that…”
“Let me deal with Mer Abrevar, husband,” said Csethiro— in a tone she obviously thought was measured, because she looked proud of herself. It was not measured. It was immense.Bookmarked by beeclaws
