“I don’t care if you love me, old man,” Jason ached in all the possible ways you could ache. His eyes burned, his chest throbbed, and his nails bit into his palms like the pain in his heart could be drawn out to his hands. “It’s not enough for you to claim that you love me and then expect everything to go back to the way it used to be.”
“I don’t just love you, chum.” Bruce rested a large hand on his shoulder, and Jason couldn’t force himself to pull away like he wanted to. “I’ve missed you.”
“You don’t miss me, B,” Jason violently shrugged him off, pretending that the absence of his touch wasn’t like being torn apart. “You miss a boy who died in a warehouse. Not the murderer who goes against everything you believe in.”
“We all have exceptions,” Bruce told him, not a flicker of emotion on his face despite the intensity of his voice. Some training one could never beat out of themselves. “You are mine, son. I don’t care what you’ve done or who you think you are; I just want you back.”

But Jason's gone deathly white. The mug slips from his grasp and Dick catches it. He's mumbling something now. Flashback. Dick steps away in case Jason lashes out. He's been on the receiving end of the Lazarus-enhanced blows one too many times to count. He doesn't fancy getting his ribs broken again.
He tries, out of reaching distance," Jason?"
But Jason's not listening. His expression is dazed. But it quickly morphs into fear. He's mouthing something soundlessly. It makes the skin tug under his left eye. From where it's pinched from the burn. Where the Joker branded a J onto his face.
Oh no.

Damian snarls, hits a button on the hilt of his sword. It lights up with its own electricity and, ah fuck, that’s not fair. He presses in close, and Jason throws up his arm, catching the blade on a notch in his armor and twisting so it slides across his jacket instead of biting into the meat of his forearm.
“Father was right about you, Todd,” Damian hisses – it’s the first time he’s spoken to Jason since, since – Jason flinches, he can’t help it. Jason can’t figure out who his attackers are. He’s so cold, and he can’t see anything, but he’d find a way out of this. His head is pounding, and everything hurts. He just doesn’t want to die alone again. He wants to stay alive.
OR
Jason Todd gets really beat up by two men whose sadistic goal is to break the Red Hood and he activates his comms as a last resort, without realizing Oracle could hear him. Dick gets the message and scrambles to find Jason, as he’d rather die than let Jason die again.
