    Summary

    Chekov stretches his head left and right. Slight cracks help relieve some of the tension in his neck. Sleep can always wait if the captain needs them. The fact that he’s on the bridge at all was a stroke of luck Chekov has never taken for granted. If the captain wants him on navigation instead of beta shift, well, he’s proud. It means he’s done his job well.

    Kirk trusts him.

    Summary

    Here's the thing: Jim might have woken up in the past. He might have also woken in an alien simulation or a telepathic recreation of his past. This might even be a whole other reality.
    But, with no way to be sure, there's really only one decision to make. As long as the chances aren't zero, Jim has to try to stop the upcoming destruction of Vulcan.
    What makes this goal that much harder is doing it without looking insane. Or actually going insane as he constantly doubts his reality.

    Summary

    While they submitted to their medical examinations, Spock did his best to keep from watching his captain too closely, but he found his eyes drifting that way again and again.
    It was illogical, he told himself, to feel as though he were seeing Jim again for the first time in weeks. The space they had shared in New York had been one intended for a single human. They had breathed the same cold air in that one room, and all but tripped over each other with every movement.

    * * *

    Which is to say, Edith Keeler had to die, so now Jim can't sleep alone, and Spock doesn't really understand grieving humans, but he's pretty sure it's inappropriate to express romantic interest in Jim while he's still mourning someone else, which would all be a lot easier if Jim weren't in his bed, wouldn't it?
