Taking on the position of the Director's bodyguard seemed like a good way to get away from his old responsibilities with the FBI. With Anderson gone to take care of her young daughter, Casey was left drifting. In hindsight, he might have made that decision a bit too quickly.
Now, though, he isn't a man who gives up easily. Even when Director Wake makes it rather difficult to guard him by always running into trouble or creating his own by being too damn stubborn.

Then he finds out Wake isn't in a cell next to his. He's never been in a containment unit anywhere near Alex. The FBC doesn't have the man in custody at all. Believe him to be back in the Dark Place.
