Summary
But Lucy doesn’t care about the Dragon King, or fated battles, or Zeref’s motivations, or even the fate of mankind itself. She just wants her family back.
She’s crazy for even considering this, she knows. Taking his help? Zeref’s? The most dangerous wizard of all time? The guy who, by his very existence, caused untold suffering for most of her friends? The man who is staring down at her right now, with those cold, dark eyes, like he couldn’t give a whit either way if she lived or died?
But. It’s the end of the world. Nothing makes sense anymore. Everyone and everything Lucy has ever loved is gone. And all she wants is to change that.
“Alright,” Lucy says steadily, despite her better instincts. “Let’s do it.”
And Zeref only smiles, slow and satisfied, like he’d known all along what her answer would be.

Summary
The next thing that happens, though, Natsu catches wind of before his friends do. A man who looks to be in his forties—standing out because he’s dressed a lot more humbly than the rest of his counterparts—glances at Lucy as she appears in his periphery and then his eyes go wide and delighted. He takes her by the shoulders before she can pass him by, and Natsu is ready to charge straight at him, the rest of the guests be damned—before he registers that he has a large, friendly smile on his face and he immediately removes his hands from Lucy once he has her attention and greets her. His voice is loud enough to garner the attention of the rest of the partygoers and they all go quiet, listening in.
“Layla? It is you, isn’t? My god, you haven’t aged a day!”
Lucy’s entire body goes rigid.
Natsu immediately wants to burn this entire godforsaken place to the ground.

“I didn’t think Sorcerer Weekly would stoop to printing outright lies,” Gray can’t help but interject, grimacing when this turns everyone’s attention on him. “I mean, really? Natsu and Lucy as a couple? I’ve heard a lot of insane rumors about Lucy over the years, but this might be the craziest.”
There’s a beat of silence, and then Gray begins to hear murmurs of people agreeing, going, well, yeah, I didn’t think Natsu of all people—
And then unexpectedly, Natsu pipes up.
“Who says it’s just a rumor?”
The guild erupts into chaos again.
