Arthur had royally mucked up this time.
It had started out simply enough, if not, admittedly, a bit pathetically.
He should have known better. He did know better, actually, but he wanted to once, just once, prove Francis wrong. He was decidedly not sad or lonely or pathetic or going to die alone at this rate no matter what the stupid frog claimed, thank very much!

In an effort to shut Francis up, Arthur decides to conjure himself up a boyfriend using a pumpkin as the foundation. It's not intended as a permanent thing, mind you, just a means of making Francis eat crow.
He never expected to fall for his own creation, though.

Summary
Arthur Kirkland was nine years old when his world abruptly came to an end.
A completely tragic, totally unfair, and absolutely unwarranted end.
The company his father worked for had recently established an American branch and they wanted him to head it up, apparently. It was an incredibly opportunity, his parents said, one that came with a massive pay raise and further opportunities for advancement in the future if all went well.
Arthur didn’t care about any of that though.
All Arthur could see was that his life was never, ever going to be the same ever again.

When Arthur's family moves to America to further his father's career, he is absolutely miserable. He misses England and its many familiar comforts and struggles to find a place where he belongs in his new home.
That is, until a chance encounter in the neighborhood treehouse.

“That’s how you knew you liked me? At six years old??”
“I don’t know, Arthur!” Alfred spluttered in an almost whining tone, face reddening, as he flopped back down onto the bed, covering his face with his hands. “There was more to it, but I’m not explaining it very well, okay!?”
“I just— I just can’t believe that you—”
“Do you remember?” Alfred asked, cutting him off. “That first summer you were here?”
Arthur hesitated. “... What about it?”
“You know—” Alfred gestured awkwardly here and there, before making a strange flittering motion with his fingers, as though that explained everything. “The June bug thing?”
Arthur paled. “Oh, god...”
Arthur remembered. Of course he remembered.
The June bug incident.

An incident between their son, Peter, and the neighbor's daughter, Wendy, raises a question Arthur never thought to ask, and serves as an unexpected reminder of one of the stranger moments between him and Alfred when they first met as young children.

“And you will remain alone.” Francis murmured, sounding saddened by the fact.
“And I will remain the sole, stalwart, sovereign of Hearts, yes...” Arthur nodded, suddenly very solemn. “And—!” He cut himself off, taking a deep breath to compose himself. “... And, I will support Alfred in welcoming his new Queen of Spades, no matter who they may be.”

Arthur, Queen of Hearts, and Francis, King of Diamonds, both attend Alfred's coronation. Per tradition, at the coronation's conclusion the newly crowned King of Spades also initiates the Searching Ceremony to find the next Queen of Spades.
No one was prepared for who the Queen's Light deems fit to Mark.

“We did.” Arthur acknowledged with a nod of his head. His frown furthered as he brushed Alfred’s bangs out of his face for him, concerned by the amount of sweat gathering in the loose locks. “But that doesn’t matter right now. The only thing that matters is you getting better.”

After months of careful planning, Alfred somehow manages to get sick the moment he steps off the plane in London to spend Valentine's weekend with Arthur.

Summary
Despite now knowing that the Millennium Ring is incredibly dangerous, Ryou finds himself inexplicably drawn to the spirit which exists within it. Intrigued, he concocts a plan to properly meet (so to say) and chat with the Ring Spirit properly in the weeks following their showdown in Monster World. What follows is an unlikely partnership that neither of them could have seen coming.
(Follows Ryou and Bakura throughout the events of the series with the two in a proper partnership/developing friendship following the end of the Monster World Arc and going into the Duelist Kingdom Arc. More specific details in the opening notes of Chapter 1.)
