Summary
Dick Grayson died alone in his apartment. A sudden drug overdose, ruled as a suicide.
Five years later, Batman and Robin are investigating a string of seemingly unrelated murders, connected only by the owl feathers found at every scene. The secrets they uncover leave them with more questions than answers.

Summary
With a gurgled scream he's tossed back into the ocean. The waters rush to embrace their stolen child, but now, instead of their enclosure being a comfort, it's suffocating.
He thrashes, desperate, trying to swim but... but he can't.
Panic and fear washes over him as he slowly starts to sink to the bottom of the ocean floor, a trail of blood flowing from the spots his fins were supposed to be.
He's a shark mer. He needs his fins to swim, but... but they're gone. Taken. Stolen. Sawed away by those monsters. His fins... are gone.
Dick lets out a terrified shrill as he sinks down, down, down.... drowning.
For years he's been told to stay clear of the monsters above the ocean. Been told how there were humans that wouldn't hesitate to tear his fins off his body. But never in his life had he expected for it to actually happen to him. Now Dick's drowning, unable to move, defenseless, and... No.
No, no, no, no—
There's a something big swimming right toward him.
(OR Bruce Wayne finds a dying, de-finned shark mer and he does what anyone sensible would do: he takes him in and looks after him, all the while wondering if 26 is a bit too young to adopt.)

Summary
“I think I like you like this, little prince,” Slade said. He used his free hand to stroke across the top of Dick’s head, between his ears, and when Dick tossed his head, he gave the leash a sharp yank to keep him still. “That’s a good boy,” he purred. He scratched Dick’s head again.
(Dick was going to rip that hand off of Slade’s arm. He was going to sink his teeth into Slade’s stomach and eviscerate him.)
OR
After the coup, Slade’s guards lock Dick in Gotham's kennels. It only gets worse from there.

Summary
Yikes.
He looked… not great.
The mirror showed a paler version of himself than he’d expected. Fatigue had left bruises under his eyes. The cold bit through him once again.
Dick reached for a thermometer.
97.2 oF.
No fever. If anything, he was running a little colder than usual.
Probably overwork, then. Dick groaned. He hadn’t even been doing anything crazy lately. He must’ve been getting old. Was this how Bruce felt after patrol?
Fine. Shower, then sleep. He’d feel better in the morning.

Summary
Dick turned around, staring at the man. He scoffed and shook his head. “I don’t know. I guess you're right.”
It was strange, being at this end of the conversation. Normally, it’s Nightwing talking down people from suicide, not the other way around.
“I suppose it would’ve been better if I’d never been born at all.” Dick coughed, still shivering from the cold.

An "It's a Wonderful Life" inspired AU where things weren't all fine and dandy post-Spyral. Dick Grayson is spyralling (ha.) and he won't let anybody in to help him. On Christmas Eve, he's about to make an irreversible choice (nevermind, its DC, probably not irreversible) when he stops to save a man.
Who claims to be his guardian angel.

Summary
Jason Todd dies, cradled in the arms of a man who had already seen too much death, and something in Batman breaks. His youngest of five children, in a coffin that should have held himself instead.
Therefore, when freshly orphaned Dick Grayson arrives at the gates of Wayne Manor, it is to a bleak and still in mourning family. He is not even given enough time to unpack his meagre set of belongings before he’s packing them again and is shipped off to a boarding school halfway across the globe.
And another one.
And then another.
And so on and so forth.
By the time he’s sixteen, he runs away from the worst of the lot, sick of being shafted off from place-to-place like an unwanted stray. Somehow, in his lowest moment, he catches the eye of a strange one-eyed mercenary, who presents him with an offer too good to refuse.
