“Like what?”
He grows quiet, a beat of silence passes, the small gasp of a breath before he speaks again. She’s not looking at him, but she can hear the subtle smile in his voice. “Whatever we want, kid.”
Inevitably, her head falls to rest on his arm. The leather pauldron is soft. She hears cicadas sing their way in the distance, feels heat lay softly on her cheeks. The air smells of sea salt and grass. Is this what freedom smells like? Is it the wind of peace that is gently tugging at the strands of her hair?
A sigh escapes Hunter’s lips. It’s light, easy. So easy, for something that has taken so much agony and sacrifice to obtain. “Whatever we want.”
In which Hunter learns to let go, and Omega learns of an enemy far bigger and stronger than the empire: time - something the clones never had. something that was always destined to betray her.

Hunter shakes his head slowly, taking a few cautious steps back, afraid of himself. Afraid of what he might do if, if— “Where. Is. Omega?”
“She’s—” Crosshair struggles against his own breath. His hand is trembling, he notices. “It was her choice, I couldn’t have stopped her if I tried.”
“What?” It comes out as an uneven breath, not a word. The sergeant feels suddenly cold again, he can barely stagger a sentence out. He’s drowning, he must still be in the water even now, still embraced by its silencing darkness. It is everywhere now.
“She’s gone.”

They say hair holds memories.
And Omega's has grown longer—six months threaded in the pale rivers of her locks, is not a little, after all.
Six months trapped in the roof of her mouth, events Hunter will never know about, because she doesn't talk to him about it. She barely talks to him anymore. She has grown, and he wasn't there to see it. Now her hair is crescent with nightmares she only shares with Crosshair.Which is why, the sergeant decides, he tries a different approach.
He brushes it.
Every morning and night, an instance of solemn silence. She sits down in front of him, and he combs through it with his brush. There is no exchange, no turning point, no undoing, but at least Hunter can help untangle the knots in her hair. Perhaps smoothen out the monsters brimming within them, even if he barely understands them himself. Even if he never will.

Summary
Hunter is the last person in the galaxy to be surprised.
Everything that happens, that has happened around him - the invisible thread that ties every little matter together in a sow of soil, he is capable of sensing and feeling but milliseconds before it actually dawns. He can't be ambushed, he can't be attacked from behind, he can miss a blaster shot only by hearing its roaring pulse vibrating by the shell of his ears. Hunter can't be surprised. He never has been.
Until his brother’s lungs contract, and he shouts, “now there’s a sight!”
Until he hears her thin voice gasp, “Wrecker!”
Until he realizes that the price has been paid—that she’s here. She’s alive.

Impa is given a secret assignment from the King just before she is to escort Zelda and Link back to Kakariko Village for the festival of Sahasra’s Pass: make sure their arrangement is not creating “unnecessary distractions.” It seems silly for the King to be so concerned about such an implausible matter. Anyone with two eyes can see they clearly despise each other.
Impa forgets she has three.
