    Summary

As is with most wars in history, Aziraphale and Crowley meet on different sides of a pointless war. Usually, they're able to steer clear of clashing—but after their last argument in Wessex, Crowley makes no effort to tip the scales evenly, just to prove a point.

    This backfires, obviously.

    Summary

[Only one known copy exists of the so-called "Is that any way to speak to your mother" Bible. After being transcribed, it is said to have been purchased by a merchant who, upon reading the variable text of the story of the Wedding at Cana, could not contain his outburst and exclaimed aloud.

The volume was purchased for a sum that would be unthinkable today for such a man to have carried on his person. (Said merchant was described as black-clad, with the hair and visage of a devil, though current thinking attributes such descriptions to superstition.) After the variant bible was purchased, it was never seen again, and some scholars doubt its very existence.]

    Summary

Aziraphale knows exactly what’s happening: Hell has sent up a devilishly attractive demon to tempt him into sinning against God. So he’ll act like he’s falling for it, pretend he doesn’t know just what Crowley’s doing. And he certainly won’t give in.

Crowley knows exactly what’s happening: Heaven has sent down a divinely beautiful angel to dazzle him into revealing Hell’s plans. So he’ll act like he’s falling for it, pretend he doesn’t know just what Aziraphale’s doing. And he certainly won’t give in.

(Or: an angel and a demon spend 6000 years each convinced the other one is a honey trap)

Crowley is a lone demon, slithering his way onto Earth and as far away from Hell as he can manage. Heaven would smite him, Hell hates him too, and humans have no idea what they're dealing with. He is on his own.

    Well, not entirely alone.

    Summary

Due to their overlapping but different skill sets, Aziraphale is better than Crowley at certain Temptations, and Crowley is better than Aziraphale at one supposedly-angelic Task. That’s not necessarily a downside of The Arrangement. It’s absolutely fine, providing that no-one Upstairs or Downstairs notices – and after nearly eight hundred years, what are the the chances of that?

    Right.

It may not be the End of the World, but it’s the end of the Eighteenth Century, the world is changing far too fast, and an angel and a demon are up to their necks in Serendipity, even though that concept was only invented in 1754.
