    It's hard not to think about the implications of it, though. There's a splash of disgusting heat on the back of Lyney's neck. His biggest shame is how badly he wants to say yes. He hesitates, faltering, irony fails him. He should put an end to this now, walk out of the bar and meet Lynette halfway to Hotel Bouffes d’ete. That's what he should've done all along, before they had crossed so many lines.

    What a fickle thing the human mind is, how hatred is so close to passion, how tension is so close to sex. Lyney knows better.

    "And what exactly do I win?" He asks anyway.

    During a game of strip poker, Wriothesley and Lyney strip themselves of more than just their clothes.

Young Lycaon's face melted into a puddle of conflicting emotions, anger and frustration and something else, something Hugo hadn't seen on his big stupid furry face for so, so, so long. Something that looked like love, glimmering in unshed tears at the corners of his eyes, hanging off the tip of his tongue as it lolled in confusion against the teeth in his lower jaw. "For me?"

    Fuck those puppy eyes, Hugo thought. Why isn't my Lycaon this cute any more? What happened? However badly we did by each other, why didn't we try to work something out? When did we get so fucking old and bitter and incorrigible?

    "Of course I would," Hugo snapped. "You're my partner. Why wouldn't I go back for you?"

    Young thief Lycaon walks into a rift in time, into a future where his drastically changed self and Hugo seem to have split up - badly - and don't work or live or even talk together much any more. He is, of course, intent on returning to his own Hugo, but he also wants to know what happened between these two, and how to make sure it doesn't happen to him and his Hugo.
