    Summary

“I don’t want to look at you right now.” Ilya’s voice is raw but firm. “I don’t want to talk to you. Go home.” Leaving the towel bunched up on the counter, he tries to leave.

No fucking way. Shane steps into his path and stops him. There is no way he’s letting Ilya walk away like that. And why the fuck is Ilya the one who is upset? He’s the one who brought up that stupid party in the first place. And he’s the one who can’t answer one fucking question.

    “Would you choose me?”

Shane discovers how tired Ilya is of hiding and how much it hurts him that no one knows. Shane also discovers that he’s the asshole in this scenario and decides to change that, fuck the consequences. He can panic about it another day.

Hayden looks up and catches sight of Shane, thumbs hooked in his belt loops to leave the logo on his chest clear. “No. Shane. No. Get out.”
    “You like it?”
“Please, please tell me that’s not—”
Shane spins to show off the back. “Authentic.”
“No,” Hayden says, drawing out the word plaintively. “In my house?

Shane wears Ilya's jersey to watch the game at Hayden's.

“Do you remember when he used to bring wine? Can we get that sweet baby Shane back?”

“It’s too late,” Hayden says solemnly. “He's been corrupted. He's sleeping with the enemy.”

    “We can't let this stand.”

    “He’s a lost cause.”

“He's right here,” Shane says, and ducks past Jackie into the kitchen.

"What are we going to do?" Shane whispered.

"I will tell them it was me." Rozanov said, interrupting them both.

"You would do that for Shane?" David asked.

    "Is only way."

    "Ilya, don't be stupid."

"Tell me other way then, Hollander."

Shane's eyes went glassy again. "But - you won't be able to go home. Russia. It won't be safe for you-"

Hayden exchanged a look with J.J. This whole situation was so fucked.

“You cheat!” Rozanov splutters. “Barely rolled the – what is stupid thing –”

    “Dice?” Shane offers.

“Yes! Dice! You barely rolled the dice!”

    “I did not –”

    “You did –”

The two best players in the NHL, sleep paralysis demons of goalies everywhere, step toward each other, seething. Shane shoves Rozanov. “I do not cheat.”

    “You do. I watch.”

Shane grits his teeth. “You absolute –”

Hayden steps forward. Shane and Rozanov freeze when they see him, like toddlers caught sneaking cookies.

“Right,” he says, wondering what he did to deserve this shit. “You’re banned from game night. For like, the sake of your marriage.”
