Prince Daeron Targaryen, third son of King Viserys and Alicent Hightower, had wanted many different things over the course of his young life. To be a septon, a troubadour in a mummer’s troupe, a maester trained in herblore or healing, or one who tends to the books in the Citadel’s library. Or to have a lady love like the silk merchant and his wife; children whose laughter filled the home from rushes to rafters. It all came back to belonging. All his hopes and dreams had ever done so since becoming a ward of Oldtown at five, at an earlier age than most.
When the king’s niece Lady Baela comes to court with her grandmother, Daeron finds himself caught by the doe-large eyes and wry half-smile of the last woman he should ever want, the one woman he can’t have; the daughter of the enemy, Daemon Targaryen. Bitter rival to Otto Hightower, his grandfather, and husband to Princess Rhaenyra, the king’s firstborn daughter and chosen heir to the Iron Throne. They who Otto said would never suffer a rival claimant to live. But Otto is a man little given to sentiment in his own life, even with his own flesh and blood. Daeron must find his own way and he will learn he is not alone in having turbulent familial ties.

Summary
This, I intended as the novel that Lestat writes some ten years after Blood Canticle. Subject to revision, probably.
It is set in Mobile, Alabama, in 2010 against the backdrop of the Deepwater Horizon disaster. Lestat & Louis attempt an "adult" relationship by having couples therapy & Lestat attempts being a Serious Writer of Serious Novels, to some effect (he also plays in a covers band). But really it is about power, of multiple kinds. For example, to paraphrase Kurt Vonnegut Jnr., capitalism is present in this story about insecure, wealthy, white men in much the same manner that honey might be present in a story about bees.
To wit, with regard to that: “it is always from the depths of its impotence that each power center draws its power, hence their extreme maliciousness, and vanity.” (Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari in Capitalism and Schizophrenia: A Thousand Plateaus). And that is what happens in this story, in between all the expansive long-take nothing, constant hipsterism and the periodic sexing and angsting.

Summary
