It's not that Xuxi is a skeptic and finds it hard to believe in the supernatural, it's just that never in his life had he encountered something that made him stop and think 'huh, maybe we're not as alone as we thought we were'. He heard a handful of stories from Dejun, about how he nearly stepped in a fairy ring when he went to visit his grandmother a few towns over, or about the holes in his aunt's backyard that were too round and perfect for them to be dug up by an animal,- but he never thought he would get to experience the supernatural himself, especially not like this.

"So… how are you? How have things been?"
Yukhei takes a deep breath, thinks about his answer for a bit. It currently isn't bad, despite the ups and downs of life. He has a stable job as a stylist in a hair salon near his apartment, his coworkers are nice and fun, the ones closest to him love going out drinking and dragging him along or just hanging out at his apartment, watching movies, and eating pizza after a long and tiring shift,- and he earns enough to keep his bills paid while still having enough to buy himself some treats, like the bag of pastries in his hand. He's allowed to say things are good, fine and dandy, even if his parents don't really talk to him anymore after he came out to them. It's whatever, it doesn't matter, he doesn't care about that anymore.
Life is okay, except for one thing.
He hasn't seen or even heard from Renjun at all in the past four years.
