Summary
Dr. Lore, PhD in xenobiology, was doing her best to make ends meet while she tried to build the life she wanted - of exploration, discovery, alien biology, and a chosen family, since she had separated herself from her biological one. That was why she was a part of this ragtag Argos mining outfit, on a small contract to make some credits so she could buy a ship and freelance. But an alien artifact buried in a strange, difficult to mine mineral knocked her unconscious as she pulled it from the rock face. And when she woke up, she was sent to deliver it to a group of explorers, Constellation.
Now she's been recruited and is finally living her dream - exploring star systems and studying alien biology while looking for more artifacts to unravel their mystery, navigating pirates and danger as she travels the galaxy. And falling in love with a space cowboy along the way.

After escaping the crashed mind flayer vessel, Kiera, a wood elf ranger, and her newfound companions/fellow abductees are in a race against time to find a solution to their parasites that won't result in their bodies and souls being ripped apart to give gruesome birth to new mind flayers. Unfortunately, it becomes evident early in their journey that it won't be as simple as they thought, and they seem destined to play the largest role in defeating the evil trying to conquer their world.
And Kiera has to contend with the fact she fell in love at first sight with possibly the most dangerous of their companions, the pale vampire spawn Astarion, who has his own dark history of torture, distrust, and pain. Then they save the Archdruid Halsin from his cage and... damn... Destiny has a hilarious sense of humour, introducing her to two of her life-mates when they're facing a world ending crisis.

Summary
Saliva floods Astarion’s mouth. His expression is a thunderclap; he grabs your hands and yanks them away.
“What have you done?” he chokes, barely able to function. His eyes flood with black, pupil to sclera. Without another word, his head drops like a hound mid-hunt and his teeth plunge into your skin.
The pain is immediate and severe, much worse than you thought. You cry out as Astarion restrains you with his body, pinning your arms by your sides. Prey shouldn’t provoke its predator.
Blood drips from your thumb onto his blankets. The other Astarion would have minded.
