Summary
People don't continuously spend money on hobbies if it's not something they enjoy. That is of course, with the exceptions of: doing so for a friend or a loved one, or being forced to do so for work or education. So Ghost can deny it's a hobby all he wants, but the truth is, he voluntarily spends half of his paycheck every month spoiling Soap with gifts. He enjoys watching the alpha's face light up each time he receives a new one. He enjoys hearing his pleased, happy purring and the brush of his wrist gland to scent him as a thank you. He enjoys seeing and hearing Johnny happy.
That being said, Ghost also doesn't quite understand societal norms and especially doesn't understand courting traditions. He barely acknowledges to himself that his feelings for Johnny are more than just, 'he is my favorite Alpha,' and that what he feels is much more intense than just friendship. After all, friends get friends gifts all the time, yeah? It's no big deal. Even if, again, he is voluntarily spending half of his pay each month on Johnny. That's perfectly normal.
Or: The one in which Ghost loves Soap and gives him gifts, finding out he has a praise kink, and then fucks him about it.

Summary
The return to England after everything that happened in Las Almas and Chicago hits Soap harder than he'd care to admit. He'd be fine if his team were around to support him but with Price and Gaz still across the pond and Ghost vanishing like he tends to do he's having to cope alone.
Or he would be if it weren't for Riley.
AKA wouldn't it be fun if Soap had never seen Ghost's face in Los Almas and wouldn't it be more fun it they had been friends before that mission. Just Soap doesn't know it.
