Summary
Lonely private eye Jayce Talis was just another lost soul in the City of Angels. Then a glamorous antiques dealer arrived in Los Angeles hunting a treasure somebody was willing to kill for. Jayce’s best lead is a picture of a tattooed girl with braids, and his new partner is the man who took it: a photographer with one foot in the underworld and a face to die for.

“You’re not gonna believe this,” Ekko says, slightly out of breath. “So I’m hustling Talis down at the forge, right? And I’m giving him the works.”
He ticks off ‘the works’ on his fingers as he elaborates, “I complimented his work, I name dropped Councilor Medarda, I went on and on about how much her investment really means to us, since you know their families are like this,” he crosses two fingers together tightly.
An effective visual, surely, had Viktor actually been looking.
“Then, I mentioned our project scaling up and he hooked it up for free.”
That, finally, gets Viktor’s full attention. He spins around on his stool, flipping his goggles onto his forehead. The heavy thud of Ekko’s haul is enough to imply just how big of a ‘hook up’ this was.
“What exactly did you say to him?”
