Figuring out that the second daughter of the Jiang clan was, in fact, their son and heir - if you look at it by Qinghe standards - when no one else in Yunmeng had yet figured it out caused Nie Mingjue enough of a headache, and it must have given him a bit of a reputation for sticking his nose into other people's business.
That must be the reason that Jiang Cheng would come to him of all people after the fall of the Lotus Pier, hand a little too low down on his stomach for the problem to be food poisoning, to ask for advice - or maybe it was only that he had nobody else to turn to.

Summary
Liquid brown eyes stared at him while Jin Ling sat patiently on the floor waiting for something to happen. Frantically flipping through his brain for on-hand playthings, inspiration finally struck Jiang Cheng. He strode around his bedroom, gathering items and placing them on the floor in front of the infant, who watched the man with intense focus, staunchly following his every move.
“Pick your favorite thing, A-Ling.” Sitting across from Jin Ling, on the other side of the carefully selected objects of interest, Jiang Cheng scrutinized his nephew’s indecision. “Well. These probably aren’t the best toys for a baby but at least they’re shiny. Choose something to play with, A-Ling. I’m curious to see what you like the best.”

Summary
“You all don’t know anything,” Jin Ling suddenly speaks up, and Jiang Cheng is moderately curious, he’s not going to lie about that.
Jin Ling doesn’t like Lan Wangji—Jiang Cheng is more than aware that it’s his fault—but he admires Zewu-Jun and he is starting to build something of a friendship with Wen Ning, so Jiang Cheng is honestly curious to hear who Jin Ling thinks of as the most powerful cultivator.
Not to mention that Wei Wuxian is sitting right there, and for all that Jiang Cheng wishes it would be different, he doubts that there is anyone who could match Wei Wuxian at his Yiling Patriarch high.
“Who is it then?” Lan Jingyi asks, chin stubbornly set and Jin Ling glares at him.
“The most powerful cultivator is of course my jiu-jiu,” Jin Ling says, absolute certainty in his voice and everyone goes very quiet as they dart glances at Jiang Cheng.

“We brought Jiang Fengmian back for you,” Ouyang Zizhen clarifies and Jiang Cheng’s mood plummets faster than it has in years.
“Why the hell would you do that?” he demands to know and Lan Jingyi waves his hands at him.
“We didn’t actually bring him back,” he tries to reassure them. “We just called his spirit here and gave it a more solid form, so you can talk to him for the day. Uncle Qiren made sure we did all of it correctly.”
“Uncle,” Lan Wangji chastises him, way too mildly if anyone were to ask Jiang Cheng, but Lan Qiren only strokes his beard.
“There’s some catharsis to be found in this, I am certain,” he says and Jiang Cheng takes a deep breath.
