Short on money and in need of lodging, Osamu and Komori decide to share a flat on campus, both bringing a hybrid pet into those new arrangements. It's not long after that Atsumu and Kiyoomi begin to grow fond of each other, but their romance is roughly intercepted by Osamu signing Atsumu up for a breeding program.

"Rin," Osamu whispers and just barely manages to not let it come out as a wanton moan.
There's his Alpha, taller and leaner than he remembers him, long fingers of one hand coiling around a coffee mug, the other casually shoved into the deep pocket of the sweats he's wearing. No shirt – sun's out, guns out. His tail doesn't give away any kind of excitement, but the tufts of ebony black fur atop his head are rolling forward with apparent fond interest.
"'Samu," Rintaro mimics, and all of a sudden there's a needy purr in his voice Osamu has been missing for almost two months now. "I'm back, 'Samu."

"It's mating season," Kiyoomi mutters at last, without even looking up.
An uneasy, sinking feeling begins to fill Atsumu's stomach. His life has gotten so much better since the organization has collected Kiyoomi from the shore that day, but now he remembers that Kiyoomi must be so lonely here in his habitat, having not seen anyone of his kind for almost a year now.
"Oh," Atsumu says very eloquently.
