Wei Ying abandons her suitcase to investigate the sleeping situation, already coming up with a hundred reasons not to inconvenience Lan Zhan by stealing half of her fucking bed, and then gets a better look at it.
It’s huge. Wei Ying has seen a king bed before, and this is bigger than that. Is that a California King? Is that what those huge-ass orgy beds are called? There are parking spaces smaller than this bed. Wei Ying has lived in apartments smaller than this bed.
“You know,” Wei Ying says thoughtfully, “I’ll level with you. I was gonna volunteer to sleep on the couch, or steal some pillows and blankets and sleep in the bathtub, but then I saw this monstrosity. Lan Zhan, look at this fucking bed.”
Lan Zhan rests her hands on the room divider, her face softly amused. “I am looking.”
“We could tend a whole herd of sheep on this bed,” Wei Ying says, warming to her subject. “We could cross the Pacific Ocean and weather any storm on this bed. Fuck, Lan Zhan, I could stage an entire community theatre production of Chicago on this bed.”

Well, yeah, she's a middle blocker. Wei Ying bets her height is what got her the position. She's tall and she's, like…super cool. Her dark hair is pulled up into a tiny pony at the crown, revealing an undercut underneath, and she's lean and muscular. She must notice Wei Ying's gaze on her because she shifts where she's looking and looks directly at Wei Ying. Wei Ying grins and waves, but the woman just skitters her gaze elsewhere, pursing her mouth. Hmph. Well. Rude.

Summary
The path is increasingly unsteady, then, with her rucksack and the tent and assorted camping gear hanging off her front, and Wei Ying clinging to her back like a limpet. Lan Zhan can feel the warmth of her skin against where her shirt has ridden up a little. She should have tucked it in better. Wei Ying rests her head on her shoulder and keeps up a running commentary on the woodlands, the rumbling in her stomach, the closed tube line that had stopped her from arriving at Lan Zhan’s on time, the awful show she had seen last week. Lan Zhan indulges in a little smile. There are only squirrels and moss to see them here.
They emerge from the treeline, and Wei Ying shrieks and throws herself from Lan Zhan’s back, sprinting down across the beach with her hands in the air. “Holy shit! Holy shit, Lan Zhan, this is where we’re camping?”

Wei Ying levers herself to her feet, sliding her legs carefully over Lan Zhan’s on her way out of the booth. Lan Zhan holds still and lets her pass, their denim-clad thighs scraping against each other. “Say no more, I’m on it.” She scoops Huaisang’s glass up and checks in with Luo Qingyang, who demurs.
“Where were you keeping this one?” Huaisang says. She’s pulled a fan out of somewhere -- she says it’s a necessary accessory for any club and Lan Zhan has long since stopped asking her where she keeps them. “It’s no fair you get first dibs on all of the fresh ones.”
Finally, a target for Lan Zhan’s ire. She glares. Of course Huaisang can smell the way Wei Ying radiates new to the big city. It wasn’t a small town, Lan Zhan! It had five thousand people in it! So did Lan Zhan’s high school.
Luo Qingyang jumps in. “No, she definitely hasn’t gotten anywhere with this one. You can tell.”
