{In the end, the fault likely lay with Mycroft.
For years he had tried to instill a sense of responsibility in his brother. It stood to reason that such efforts would come back to, as Gregory’s niece would say, bite him.}
Or; Sherlock and John tell Greg a bit more about what happened at Sherrinford and it triggers Mycroft into a breakdown that’s been a long time coming.

“Art,” Patrick says, “I woke up in my car, and everything was telling me that it’s Friday—”
“March 2nd,” Art finishes, white as a ghost. “But that’s…impossible.”
“Yeah.” Patrick remembers a French term from a book he had to read in AP English years ago: folie à deux. Madness of two. Could two people experience the exact same tear in reality at once?
“This isn’t—” Art pauses. “I don’t understand.”
Neither does Patrick. But as he squeezes Art’s shoulder tighter like he’s a human stress ball, there’s only one thought on his mind.
“We have to find Tashi.”
On March 2nd 2007, Tashi gets injured, Art and Patrick's friendship crumbles, and three lives change forever. And forever lasts a long, long time when you're trapped living the same day over and over.

Summary
No one could ever say Youssef Farouk was anything but smart. A*s in chemistry and physics and A’s in biology and statistics on his exams and graduating with degrees in chemistry and physics was proof enough to stop anyone who would ever think anything other than the simple truth that Youssef Farouk was smart.
But sometimes it was hard for Youssef to believe that himself. As the only child in his family, there were times when he felt that he was never enough to please his parents and so he dove deeper and deeper into his school work. While his classmates were going out to the movies and talking about the girls they liked, Youssef added academic extracurricular after extracurricular and got a part-time job to make his university applications stand out, doing whatever he could to work towards the four words he hoped to hear from his father: I’m proud of you.
