Summary
He’s warm, Astarion realizes, and curls a bit closer. Steady, soft heat, far better than the thin blanket Astarion usually covers himself in. They don’t usually sleep this close, but the relentless chill of the Shadow-Cursed Lands has Astarion chasing his warmth.
Kairos hums, and shifts so he can bury his face in Astarion’s hair. “You smell good.”
“Bergamot and rosemary,” Astarion mumbles. “Covers up the corpse smell.”
“I like the corpse smell,” Kairos replies, unabashed, like the freak he is.
Perhaps the Dark Urge is not the safest companion Astarion could have chosen to seduce. In his defense, he's not exactly a details person.

Summary
The Duchess Approves is terrible. He wants to bleach every brick of his body just to purify himself of this three hour experience. He wants to pluck out his eyeball and treat it to a ten-day spa as reparations. He demands a sequel from the Axolotl during their next therapy session.
The Axolotl tilts their head. “There's no sequel. Only one movie has ever been made.”
Bill glowers. “But what happens after?”
“Production went into debt after casting big name Grampton St. Rumpterfrabble,” the Axolotl answers sadly. “Rumor has it he charges fifty thousand per letter.”
“Wonderful,” Bill drawls. “Real useful information. So what am I supposed to do now, doc?”
The Axolotl’s eyes gleam suspiciously. “I suppose there’s always fanfiction.”
Or: Bill hates a certain fanfic author almost as much as he hates the man who killed him. Crazy, wouldn't it be, if the two were the same person.

Kairos bares his neck, displaying the expanse of his throat. “You don’t owe me,” he murmurs, as he beckons Astarion forward. “You told me it was a gift that first time, didn’t you? Gifts aren’t repaid.”
“Hm.” Astarion trails a light touch up Kairos’ throat, forcing him to angle his head back further. “In children’s books, perhaps. You’re rather naive, with fangs at your throat.”
“You’re not very scary,” Kairos responds, and Astarion bites him.
Astarion waits for it to get worse. Strangely, it never does.

“I want to try,” Fiddleford says, gentle and windswept, “to be something good for you.”
Hope is a silly thing. It has burned Stan one too many times, and yet Stan keeps letting it, fool that he is. “Okay,” he agrees, and folds their hands together. It’s a clumsy fit: Stan’s fingers are thick and calloused, Fiddleford’s spindly and bitten at the nail. “Let’s try to be something good.”
Stan and Fiddleford try to be something good. It takes them thirty years. Companion piece to meltwater pulse, but can be read as a standalone.

Somewhere in a bar in New York, Daniel hears about them. He wants to fill a void. The difference between what is real and what isn’t matters as little to him as the things he’ll find to throw into the darkness. Which, as it turns out, is quite a lot.
