    Summary

What if . . . Mrs. Gardiner's Lambton relations had been a little more well-to-do and what if she had stronger and longer ties to them and to Derbyshire? In this variation Elizabeth begins to spend summers with the Gardiners in Derbyshire at a fairly young age. As a result she develops her own ties to that part of the world and its people, including the Darcy's of Pemberley.

"Hey, don’t apologise. I get it.”

Willow gets it too. It’s why she asked Daddy about taking her to the Hunger Games museum in the Capitol and not Mama. She’s due to start their unit on it in school next term and she wants to be prepared for what she’s going to learn. When you’re the child of two victors, not to mention the Mockingjay, Willow’s found it’s better to be prepared.

She could find a book or ask someone like Aunt Jo or Finn to tell her what she needs to know but she wants to know the full picture. Everyone always talks about the memorial museum walking the line between factual and reverent and Willow wants to see it.

And she wants one of her parents to take her.

But he just stares at me for a long moment, his smile never wavering, then admits simply, "I'm just so happy that I threw you that bread."

I feel my chest constrict, both moved by his words and exhausted from even standing inside this place again. And my eyes overflow then and all I can manage to say is, "so am I."
