Summary
In the small, sleepy town of Wiskayok, NJ, something is killing local dogs; Lottie Matthews and her step-sister Shauna, the town freaks, are interested. Sharing a mutual obsession with the occult, gory B-movies, and violent, bleakly funny tableaux of their own deaths, as well as a bond whose depth can’t even really be measured, the Matthews sisters are outcasts in the high school and the town at large.
At least until, one night in the woods, an unidentifiable monster attacks Shauna, then gets totalled by a passing van before anyone can try and figure out just what the fuck it is. Shauna's wounds heal in barely an hour, and before long she starts changing in ways nobody could even think about attributing to adolescence.

Adora feels her cheeks burning, and wishes she could blame the mid-morning sun. “Hey, Catra,” she replies weakly. “Nice—” face? Eyes? Skin? That’s a lot of skin. Everything sounds wrong— “swimsuit. Too?”
Thank God Finn is under the water.
Catra leans back, basking in the sun. Rivulets of water trail down the curve of her body, down to where her slight stretch draws Adora’s eye, to her hip, to her waist, to her stomach, to her—
Eyes.
Adora snaps back to her eyes. Which are still open. And still looking at her.
Oh, no.
Summer is meant to be a time to relax and recover. That’s what Adora’s heard, at least. But with a calendar chock-full of activities for a rambunctious twelve-year-old, a full-time job to pay the bills, and a husband whose idea of “helping” is finding more jobs for her to do around the house, Adora is officially drowning.
For the first time in years, Hordak does something to help. He hires a local college senior to be Finn’s nanny, for when Adora can’t “keep up”. It’s not her fault he chose the hottest woman on Earth.

“Yes,” Glimmer sighed. “You’re the only one who knows them both.”
“The most I’ve ever said to Adora was ‘does this print double-sided?’ And my friend-” Bow paused. He didn’t really need to share any private details about the most fiercely private person he knew. “She hasn’t consented to this. I mean, no one has consented to any of this.”
“Because they don’t know about it! But if they did, and they had chose this, they’d be ecstatic.”
Bow felt his face crinkle at the brow. “So basically if every single thing was different about the circumstances?”
Glimmer narrowed her eyes. “Listen. I did a very misguided but well-meaning thing. And I think it was actually genius. So you’re going to help me fix it. Okay?”
Sometimes you try to do a good thing and end up catfishing your best friend for her own good. Glimmer knows that's not the best way to handle a problem but she's got this! Bow's here to help! He even knows the random girl whose photos she (accidentally?) used and, while he thinks Catra and Adora absolutely should stay at least one county apart at all times for everyone's safety, Glimmer (and the universe) has other plans.
