“I take it that bard wasn't your first.” He saw them flinch. Their knuckles turned white where they gripped the fabric of their pants.
Their silence was the only answer he needed. The guilt weighed heavily on them, anyone could see it. He couldn't believe the others actually believed them when they said they didn't do it. And, oh, was that corpse brutalized. Far beyond what was necessary for her death. No, they – whatever part of them it was – enjoyed it.
They were quite the puzzle, for someone who cared about solving that sort of thing. All the parts of them seemed to clash, mixed together into a slurry of a mind that couldn't decide what it wanted to be. The naive murderer, the mad idealist – all of it got lost to the chaos in their head.
It was all the easier to control a person that didn't know who they were.
