“Oh, the necklaces? No, I’ve never worn one, you see,” she says easily, “but it’s true I was looking for a particular one in there. Bukvar pointed it out to me and got it.”
“Why were you trying to take it? Is it magical?” Zirk asks in a hushed voice, looking only mildly perturbed discussing something that shouldn’t even be thought of, truth be told.
“It certainly is something,” Fia states, “and since I would take one for safekeeping anyway, I thought to myself, ‘Why not that one?’, right?”
It gives Henry, who has been quietly panicking and fuming, a pause. “Safekeeping?” he repeats. “Are you…?”
He doesn’t dare to finish that question, but Fia seems to understand. She shakes her head, momentarily looking forlorn. “No, but someone important to me did remember the things that the rest of us forget,” she says quietly. “And I – I try to salvage what I can, I suppose.”

In a world where people are compelled to forget objects and concepts, Henry, Fia and Zirk are trying their best. Loosely based on Yōko Ogawa's "The Memory Police".

Standard practise for students caught engaged in 'villainous activities' such as attempting to destroy the town includes mandatory sessions with Aguefort's guidance counsellor.
No matter what they did, Jawbone is determined to provide the Rat Grinders the best counselling he can, like he would with any student. To help them heal and move on from the events of Junior Year, even if they don't particularly want his help or advice.
He owes them that.

Amethar does not put his hands onto the press podium. He makes sure to keep his hands under it, clenched and out of sight, because he knows himself and knows that breaking three inches of solid wood in half because he’s too frustrated to think straight wouldn’t be good for anyone. He closes his eyes and imagines the clearness of the sky above the cloud layer as he tries to ignore the way that the Fairy, within the stone that rests above his heart, whispers, We are above all of them, they should not make you nervous.
Or: Then, Amethar Rocks is barely 19 and grappling with the enormity of power he’s suddenly gained. Now, Amethar is closer to 40 than he’d like to admit and suddenly thrust into the RocksCorp spotlight when his oldest sister falls ill, stuck balancing his responsibilities against his wants, all while trying to keep away from other expanding businesses and figure out what's going on with his boyfriend.
