He looks down, and watches as her eyes move from behind her eyelids. He stills, waiting for them to open and that lifeless, cloudy gaze to stare back at him. If she had somehow turned, he doesn’t think he could find it in himself to stop her from biting him. It would be just what he deserved.
Beth’s eyelids flutter open, and his heart nearly jumps out of his chest when he sees that they’re still normal, she’s still her. She’s still alive.

She laughs and a cool breeze passes right by them, lifting the loose strands of hair that have escaped from her ponytail. Jonas’ eyes trail from her cheek downwards, to the hickey that’s barely poking out of the collar of her jacket.
He doesn’t know what really comes over him in the next moment. Maybe it’s the alcohol or way dimples form on her cheeks as she smiles. Either way Jonas can’t help but reach up and brush his fingers on her neck, ghosting the place his lips just were minutes ago.
