or: bleeding, dissociated, and half-conscious—they stumble into intimacy the only way they know how: through blood, bathwater, quiet kisses, and chuuya holding dazai together when he’s too far gone to ask for it, and too exhausted to pretend he doesn’t want it.

No matter what the bards and starry-eyed mortals claimed, titles like “King of the Underworld” or “God of Death” made your daily existence sound far more luxurious than it actually was—like you ought to be sipping wine from a golden chalice while hosting theatrically gloomy banquets with skeletal attendants dancing at your feet.
In reality, the title (so graciously bestowed upon you by your dear brother) translated into nothing more than an endless avalanche of complaints from human souls, centuries spent far from the sun with only your subordinates—lovely people, loyal, practically family—Corruption the hound, and the occasional visitor to keep you from going insane. And of course, there were the dead themselves, but they weren’t exactly riveting conversationalists.
Worse still, you had to endure the insufferable boldness of the other gods, who never missed a chance to comment on your appearance, demand gossip, or attempt to slip into your bed.
In which Chuuya is the weary, overworked King of the Underworld…
