Fairy Rings and Other Myths

Summary:

Jimin’s a fairy and his parents told him to never get himself involved with a witch but Namjoon’s so sweet and kind and not anything like he was told about witches.

Notes:

Prompt from shittyromcom on Tumblr

Magic AU where fairies, witches, vampires, mermaids, dwarves, pixies, ghosts, elves, etc all live together but separate in a modern world. Humans exist as well, but typically they become something magical later in life either by choice or by default. They are mostly visually indiscernible from fairies, witches, and vampires.

Work Text:

Jimin grew up his entire life hearing that witches were not to be trusted. There were countless films where the main antagonists were witches. It was always witches. Occasionally it’d be vampires or something, but never was it fairies.

He lived a very segregated lifestyle as well. He lived in a neighborhood full of fairies and went to a school full of fairies. He had done very little traveling in his lifetime, but that was because everything he needed was right here at home.

However, the older he got, the more restless he became.

His parents told him to never to cross the border into another sector alone. When he was about fifteen, he would often find himself visiting the edge anyways. It seemed like such a harmless thing then, to step over the line. He always wondered where the lines even came from. It was hard to describe their appearance. They were a bit wavy, but still clear and they distorted the view only slightly.

When he was sixteen, he finally crossed.

Jimin had looked to the right and then to the left and back over his shoulder. No one was around. Carefully, he had reached out and put his arm through to the other side. It felt kind of funny - a little tingly. It definitely didn’t hurt. He then took a small step forward so that more of himself was over the line. He was about half in half out at this point, so he took the leap and jumped fully to the other side. When he was completely across, the weird tingly feeling stopped. He looked around him and things still felt the same. Everything was the same there except he was looking at the other side of the border for once.

At the sound of a twig snapping, he had jumped back to his side of the line. He looked around and still saw no one. To be safe, he figured he should go back home.

Ever since that day when Jimin first crossed the border, his curiosity only grew and grew. He had met a few other species here and there. Sometimes elves or humans would come into town to visit. Once his family went on vacation and he met a whole pod of mermaids - they were lovely.

Everyone he had met had always been lovely to talk to. It was always fascinating for him to hear about the different kinds of magic and how different species wielded magic. He almost felt bad for the humans who wielded almost no magic at all. They could, of course, learn. Some chose to stay the same because they believed magic was too much responsibility for them. But the ones who wanted something more could become vampires, ghosts, or witches.

Jimin had always been warned to be wary of these, but most of all, witches.

“They take magic from the universe that’s not theirs, to begin with,” his mother explained when he asked why witches were so bad.

He supposed it made sense. Other species had their own kind of magic. Witches had to have all this extra help from potions and spells - it was simply unnatural.

Vampires weren’t as bad because when they were “turned” by another vampire so some of the magic transferred that way and it was as if they were “reborn.” Ghosts weren’t as bad either since they were just the separated spirit of a deceased human, though occasionally you might happen across a vengeful spirit. However, there were far more friendly ghosts than evil ones.

Even with all this information, his curiosity never ceased. As Jimin got even older, he ventured more and further across the borders. He didn’t like living in a literal bubble, so he found himself searching for more.

Occasionally, he would meet someone in the uncharted woods. There was a bit of space between most sectors that didn’t belong to any species specifically. Jimin liked to explore this area. He was a bit too afraid to visit someplace like a pixie or gnome sector - even though he had met a few pixies and gnomes on his many ventures through the uncharted areas.

Every time he left the fairy sector, he realized how tiny his bubble was and how large the world was. Typically, he would meet some new people and learn a bit about them. He would almost always return to the fairy sector with more questions than ever before.

His parents always assumed he was just a bookworm (though not the literal kind that live inside books) and that he liked to read a bunch. They didn’t know about his excursions outside the fairy sector. He thought it was better they didn’t know. They would have a heart attack if they heard some of Jimin’s stories.

When he started venturing out, he had been scared and timid to meet new people. One of the first people he ever met was an elf named Seokjin. He was very tall and very beautiful, but he was most of all kind. He said he had never met a fairy before and Jimin wondered how he could tell he was a fairy - especially if he had never met one. He had seen Seokjin a few times since then and would consider him something resemblant of a friend.

Another time he met a pixie out in the woods - Taehyung. Tae had been really funny and he was a bit lost at the time. Jimin helped him find his way back to the pixie forest that he lived in. He has yet to see Taehyung again, but he was one of the most memorable people he ever met.

The most scared he had ever been was when he encountered two vampires at once.

“What are you hiding for?” one of them had called out. They must’ve noticed him hiding behind a tree. He had always heard that vampires had extremely sensitive hearing.

“Uhh… nothing,” Jimin lied, revealing himself.

The two vampires shared a look. “What are you?” the taller one with dark hair asked.

Jimin frowned, he wasn’t sure if he should answer that. He didn’t know if telling the vampires that he was a fairy would be good or bad for him. He stayed quiet. “I think he’s a fairy,” the shorter blonde vampire spoke. “Or maybe an elf… I can never tell.”

“No, he’s too short to be an elf,” the taller one said.

“Hey! You’re just as short as me,” Jimin said, nodding to his friend. He regretted his words instantly because they both laughed. He couldn’t help but stare at their fangs. It was kind of surreal for him. He had seen images or videos of vampires before, but seeing one in real life was totally different. He had never seen one visiting the fairy sector.

“I think he’s definitely a fairy,” the shorter vampire said.

“Yeah, so?” Jimin said as if he was challenging them to do something about it.

The taller one laughed. “He’s so cute,” Jimin heard him say.

“Relax, we’re just the same as you. Just passing through,” the blonde one said.

Jimin blinked and realized maybe he was letting his prejudice get the best of him. He then took a second to apologize and introduce himself. The vampires were both very amused at how fast he was able to change dispositions. He ended up spending the rest of the afternoon with them.

“Where are you going?” the tall one he now knew was named Jungkook asked.

“Um, nowhere really,” Jimin admitted.

“Then why don’t you come with us?” the other one - Yoongi - had asked.

Jimin decided he didn’t have much to lose. If the vampires suddenly turned on him or were luring him into a trap he was somewhat confident he would be able to run away. Besides, everything he read about vampires never said anything about them trying to lure others into traps like mermaids sometimes do.

It was after meeting the vampires when Jimin finally told someone about all his adventures. He had come back so excited from the encounter, he knew he wouldn’t be able to hold it in any longer. He went straight to his friend Hoseok to share all the details.

“I really don’t think you should be doing that,” Hoseok told him when he finished. “I mean it’s really great you’ve met a bunch of cool people, but what if they hadn’t been cool. Or what if you had run into a witch?”

Jimin frowned, “That won’t happen. I’ve been in those woods countless times and there have been no signs of witches or witchcraft. I don’t think any live around here.”

Hoseok knew his words were pointless and Jimin would continue to visit the woods anyway. So the next time he went, they went together.

All in all, their trip was pretty boring and uneventful. They might have caught a glimpse of an elf, but they had disappeared before they could catch up. Jimin was glad nothing had really happened on this trip for two reasons. One was that Hoseok was a big scaredy cat and he kept jumping anytime either of them so much as stepped on a leaf. The other was that now Hoseok could see the forest outside their sector really wasn’t that dangerous.

However, one thing was nagging at the back of his mind. He had never left the fairy sector without running into someone else. It was strangely quiet. He wondered where all the gnomes and pixies were. They were the most prevalent in this area and he saw some every other time he left.

He didn’t mention this to Hoseok and instead, they went back to their own sector. Once they were back Hoseok talked about the trip as if he wasn’t terrified the entire time. Jimin just laughed at him.

After he said goodbye to Hoseok, he planned to visit the forest once again. The sun was starting to set and he had never left the fairy sector after dark, but he told himself he would be back before it was completely dark out.

He wanted to know if maybe the reason they didn’t run into anyone was that Hoseok was there. Could other species sense his fear? That wouldn’t make any sense because Jimin had been pretty scared visiting the woods himself countless times.

Either way, he set off once again. There seemed to be some force on the other side of the border this time that was causing every creature to be silent. Jimin felt like he had to hold his breath and avoid making any noise himself. He wondered what would happen if he stepped on a twig or let out a sneeze.

He shook his head - he knew he had to be imagining things. He was scared only because he was in his own head. Jimin tried his best to relax as he went further into the woods. After a couple minutes, he realized he had never been in this part of the forest. The trees were getting taller and there were tons of mushrooms covering the ground. It was difficult for Jimin to avoid stepping on them, but he did his best.

Typically, when mushrooms grew that meant there was some kind of magical imbalance. Lots of other creature incorrectly associated mushrooms with fairies. While fairies sometimes used mushroom circles for certain kinds of magic, it was the pixies that were mostly responsible for their existence.

Jimin froze when he heard the sound of rustling coming from somewhere ahead of him. He quickly got behind a tree. When he didn’t feel like he was in any immediate danger, he stepped back out.

Logically, he knew he should leave and not investigate the strange sounds, but he couldn’t resist.

He took a few more steps forward and then suddenly he was knocked over by this giant force. Jimin fell to the ground, and by the time he turned around, he was preparing to fight whatever ran into him.

“Oh my God, I’m so sorry,” the thing that had knocked him over had apparently been a person - a really cute person. The person reached out and helped Jimin back to his feet. He kept sputtering out apologies, but Jimin wasn’t listening - he was too entranced by this guy’s dimples. “Hello? Are you okay?” Jimin snapped out of his trance when he waved his hand in front of Jimin’s face.

Jimin blinked a few times. “I uh… yeah,” Jimin managed out. Jimin took a step back and finally got a good look at this guy. He was tall - really tall. Jimin wondered if he was an elf. He had purplish hair though which was uncommon for elves plus his ears didn’t look like elf ears either. His hair was pushed up and parted, making a nice wave. It looked really soft.

“I’m Namjoon,” he said, holding out his hand. Jimin took it. His hands were really warm.

“Jimin,” he replied.

“I’m sorry for running into you earlier. I’m still getting the hang of things,” he said.

Jimin nodded as if he knew what this guy was talking about. He really had no clue. “Right.”

The guy looked around and then looked back to Jimin. “I’m sorry… can you maybe tell me where I am?”

Jimin frowned. He wondered how someone could get somewhere without knowing where they were. “Well you’re sort of nowhere,” Jimin pointed behind him, “Over there is a fairy sector and about ten miles that way there’s an elf sector.”

Namjoon’s eyes widened. “A fairy sector?” He asked as if he wasn’t sure he heard correctly.

Jimin nodded slowly, “Uhh yeah. Why?”

Namjoon shook his head. “Oh, I just… I’ve never seen a fairy. I heard they were sorta rare and hard to find.”

“Were you looking for fairies or something?” Jimin asked, choosing his words carefully. Clearly, Namjoon wasn’t aware he was talking to one right then.

Namjoon shook his head again. “No. I’ve just heard so much about them. They’re like the coolest,” Namjoon said. Jimin grinned proudly to himself a bit. He had always been proud to be a fairy and he never minded having his ego stroked by some stranger.

“Oh, I see,” Jimin said. “So are you like a human or something?” Jimin regretted phrasing his question this way as it made him seem like he wasn’t a human.

“No,” Namjoon said. Jimin didn’t think he was going to tell him what he actually was, but he surprised him when he did, “I’m a witch.”

Jimin’s ears twitched at the word. He tried his best keep his composure. He wasn’t sure what to do in this situation. “A… a witch?” Jimin repeated.

Namjoon nodded. “Yep! Well more like a witch in training because I suck at most of the spells I’ve tried.”

Jimin swallowed. He was surprised to hear the witch downplay his own abilities so quickly. Maybe this was all part of his scheme. “O-oh? You’re learning magic then?” Jimin asked. He was far too polite to uproot himself and leave this conversation and now that he knew Namjoon was a witch, he definitely didn’t want to reveal that he himself was a fairy. He had to keep talking but make sure the conversation stayed on Namjoon.

“I mean I guess,” Namjoon shrugged. “I’ve always had magic, but I’ve always been spectacularly bad at it. So I started really studying magic so I could control it better.”

Jimin nodded. It sounded reasonable enough. “What made you want to start studying?”

Jimin wasn’t sure, but he thought he saw Namjoon blush a bit, “I uh… saw this really cool movie. It had like elves and fairies and such and they were… really cool.”

“That’s all? A movie?”

“Yeah? Why?”

“It sounds too easy is all. How did you end up here?” Jimin asked.

Namjoon looked confused. “I was trying to apparate - I went a bit too far it seems. What about you?”

Jimin felt himself panic a bit. He wasn’t sure how to answer that. “I was looking for something.”

“Did you find it?”

“I dunno yet,” Jimin admitted. Perhaps Namjoon was the cause of the noises he heard earlier. Maybe he was also the reason things seemed to be hiding. There was no way of knowing at the moment.

“Do you need help?” he asked.

“No, not really,” Jimin realized how fast the sun was going down. He was feeling nervous being out this late. “I uh… have to go. I’m late for dinner,” Jimin lied.

Namjoon nodded. “Okay! I hope I see you around, Jimin!”

Jimin gave a single nod in reply, but turned and ran as soon as he was out of sight. When he stepped back into the fairy sector it was dark out. He let out a sigh of relief. He considered going straight to Hoseok to tell him what had happened, but his hands were still shaking from the encounter.

That night, sleep was hard to find. Jimin just kept thinking about Namjoon the witch. He didn’t seem sinister at all. He wanted it to be morning already so he could read some more books on witches or talk to Hoseok or maybe go back in the woods to look for Namjoon again. He had too many questions.

-

When morning finally came, Jimin jumped out of bed as soon as his eyes opened. He stopped by Hoseok’s house.

When Hoseok opened the door he gave Jimin a concerned look. “What are you doing up before noon?”

“I have to tell you something,” Jimin said stepping inside. He wasn’t going to wait for an invitation.

“Okay… what is it?”

“I met a witch,” Jimin said, cutting right to the point.

“A witch?” Hoseok repeated.

“Yeah.”

“No, you didn’t. Like a real one?” Hoseok asked.

“Yes, a real one!”

Hoseok frowned, skeptical. “If you met a witch how are you still alive? And why do you seem so happy?”

Jimin frowned at his friend. “Witches don’t kill every living thing they see.”

“Okay maybe not, but you know they hate fairies,” Hoseok said.

Jimin shook his head, “This one didn’t.”

“How do you know?”

“Because I talked to him! Hoseok, he seemed really sweet,” Jimin insisted.

“Jimin… I know you like to believe everyone is good and such but you can’t trust everyone you meet,” Hoseok said.

“I don’t Hoseok! I wish you had met him. Then you’d understand,” Jimin said.

Hoseok shook his head, “No way am I going out of the sector again.”

Jimin grinned. “Actually, that’s a great idea! Let’s go look for him again.”

Hoseok sighed, knowing arguing would be futile. “Can I at least eat lunch first?”

Jimin rolled his eyes but complied. He figured he should eat something as well. It was always harder to do magic on an empty stomach. Not that he was planning on doing magic, but it was always a good idea to be prepared when leaving the sector.

They set out just after noon. Jimin wasn’t sure at all he would be able to find Namjoon again. The only way he knew to look for him was to go back where he found him the first time. He knew that Namjoon had gone too far the first time he apparated, so maybe they just had to go further from that spot.

After an hour or two, it became clear to Jimin that they weren’t going to find Namjoon out there. They had run into four gnomes and they stopped to talk to each of them. None of them said they could sense any sort of witch around. Gnomes were known for being connected to the earth. They could always sense the vibrations and could tell where other living things were. It was the primary way their species had thrived from so many centuries. They could avoid danger before it ever got to them.

“Let’s just go back,” Hoseok said as it was starting to get darker. Jimin frowned, he didn’t want to go back. He wanted to find Namjoon again.

He figured if he could just find some mushrooms maybe he could find Namjoon again. There were no mushrooms around for miles. Jimin finally got an idea he should’ve gotten a long time ago.

Fairies didn’t fly very often, at least not like pixies did, but that didn’t mean they couldn’t. Jimin wasn’t a fan of it because he was afraid of heights, but desperate times called for… flying.

Jimin went up to the tops of the trees, despite Hoseok’s protests. Hoseok stayed on the ground and watched with worry as Jimin looked around them. With the help of his bird’s eye view, Jimin found what he was looking for.

“There!” Jimin pointed.

He returned to the ground and started racing in the direction he had seen the mushroom. “Jimin slow down!” Hoseok called after him. Jimin didn’t slow down. In fact, he probably went faster. He had to get there before he was gone.

When they got closer, Jimin had a thought that it could be another witch and not Namjoon, but he pushed that thought aside and kept running.

Finally, he came to a clearing. The trees stopped. He had never been this far away from home. Hoseok caught up with him. “Jimin, what is this?” Hoseok asked.

“I don’t know.”

Suddenly another voice called out, “Jimin!”

Jimin turned and it was him. Somehow he was more beautiful than he was the other day. “It’s you again,” Jimin said.

“We have to go back,” Hoseok whispered in his ear while he tugged on his wrist.

“You’re a fairy, aren’t you?” Namjoon said suddenly.

Jimin’s ears perked up and Hoseok seemed to freeze beside him. “Um… how did you know?”

Hoseok poked him hard in the side as if he was supposed to deny it. He realized that’s what he probably should’ve done. “Well when you left you went back towards the fairy sector,” Namjoon said. “That and you’re too short to be an elf… and too beautiful to be anything else.” He said the last part quietly, but Jimin definitely still heard him.

“Oh,” Jimin said.

There was a bit of awkward silence while they just looked at each other. “I’m Hoseok,” Hoseok finally broke the silence and reached out to shake Namjoon’s hand.

Namjoon seemed to finally register the fact there was another person there. Jimin was a bit shocked at his friend’s bold actions. For someone that was so against witches, he didn’t seem to show it all in the moment. “Nice to meet you,” Namjoon said. “I’m Namjoon.”

“Yeah, I know,” Hoseok answered. Namjoon looked confused at this so he continued, “I mean Jimin told me all about you.”

“Oh,” Namjoon said with a bit of a laugh. He seemed embarrassed somehow.

“Do you live around here?” Jimin couldn’t keep himself from asking.

Namjoon nodded. “Yeah. Just past that clearing actually.”

Jimin frowned, “You don’t live inside a sector?”

“No. Sectors always limit magic somehow. It’s better for me to live out here,” Namjoon explained.

“Oh… that’s really cool,” Jimin said.

Another awkward silence followed. It was a good thing Hoseok tagged along because he was the one to break it once again. “Jimin I think we have to be getting back. We’re late for dinner,” Hoseok lied. Jimin cringed because that was the same lie he told Namjoon yesterday.

“Fairies eat dinner really late,” Namjoon said. Jimin couldn’t tell if he was being genuine or if he could see right through their lies. Either way, Jimin felt himself blush.

“Yeah… We should go,” Jimin said.

“Wait!” Namjoon exclaimed. Jimin paused and waited for Namjoon to keep talking. “I uh… when will you be back?” Namjoon stuttered out.

Jimin bit his bottom lip to hold back a grin. “Uhh… maybe tomorrow,” he said. He didn’t typically visit the forests every day, but he also didn’t typically have a cute witch waiting for him somewhere.

Namjoon nodded in response and they left after that. The walk back was a lot slower than the run out there had been. Once they had been walking in silence for long enough, Hoseok spoke up. “He likes you,” Hoseok said.

Jimin’s head snapped up towards him. “W-what?”

“You heard me,” Hoseok grinned.

Jimin couldn’t hold back a smile. “You think so?”

“Oh yeah. It’s really obvious,” Hoseok said.

“I thought you were all anti-witch.”

“Well yeah… I was. But that was before I met the cute witch that has a giant crush on my best friend.”

“And you’re really not suspicious of him or something?”

“Oh no. Not of him,” Hoseok said with full confidence.

“How can you be so sure?”

“I can just tell these things, remember,” Hoseok said. Jimin frowned. His friend had always claimed to have some sort of clairvoyant powers that allowed him to see how much good or evil was in someone’s soul. Jimin wasn’t sure he believed him, but he wanted to for this.

-

The next day, he set out as soon as he had the chance. He made his way towards Namjoon’s house and didn’t stop until he got there. When he arrived hesitated before knocking on his door.

“One second!” Namjoon’s voice called from the other side of the door. Jimin heard a bit of clattering and then the sound of something crashing. He wondered if something had broken. A few seconds later, Namjoon opened the door looking winded and startled.

“Jimin,” he said as if he didn’t expect him to really show up. Jimin worried for a second that he wasn’t welcome and that Namjoon wasn’t actually expecting him to drop by today.

“Hi,” Jimin said. “I uh…” Jimin wasn’t sure what to say.

“Come in!” Namjoon interrupted. He stepped to the side to let Jimin in his house. Jimin was a little nervous to actually go inside a witch’s house, but it was just Namjoon. Jimin looked around in awe as he walked in. The house was sort of similar to his own in that it was littered with lots of books and many different plants, but at the same time, it was totally different. The whole house seemed to be living somehow.

Certain things seemed to glow to glitter as he walked past. There were literal bubbles coming from his sink that appeared to be cleaning the dishes on its own. In the cupboards above the sink, there were dozens of tiny vials. Some of them held different colored liquids. By the table, there were a few metal buckets that had all toppled over. Jimin wondered if that’s what the crashing noise had been. Namjoon seemed to notice him looking that way because he waved his hand and the buckets picked themselves up and arranged in a nice neat pile against the wall.

Jimin finally turned to Namjoon. “You’re house… this is amazing,” Jimin said.

Namjoon blushed and averted his gaze, “Thanks. It’s kind of a mess right now.”

Jimin could maybe agree things were a little cluttered, but at the same time, it was cluttered with magic and it was amazing. “It’s great,” Jimin said with a smile.

Namjoon scratched behind his ear. “So um… what’s up? I mean why are you here? I mean not that you’re unwelcome. I just… I don’t know. I don’t get many visitors.”

“Don’t you have friends?” Jimin asked. He didn’t mean to sound so blunt.

“Uhh… well, I moved away from home because I wanted to travel, but people that aren’t witches… tend to be scared of witches. So no, I don’t have any friends,” Namjoon explained.

“Oh,” Jimin said, feeling pity for him. He also felt guilty since he was also scared of witches. Just then his stomach grumbled really loud. “Yikes. I’m hungry… I’m realizing now I forgot to make breakfast.”

Namjoon swallowed, “I’d uh… offer to cook for you, but I’m a really shitty cook.”

Jimin smiled. “I can cook!”

“That’s okay, you’re my guest,” Namjoon said.

“Yeah, but I showed up uninvited. At least let me cook for you!” Jimin said.

“O-okay,” Namjoon agreed. He left Jimin alone in the kitchen for a bit. Jimin wasn’t sure where he went, but when he came back, he was wearing different clothes. Jimin had started rummaging through Namjoon’s pantry to see what ingredients he had to see what he could cook. He decided to make black bean soup. Namjoon looked at the ingredients he had all, “You should teach me what you’re doing so I can learn to make it.”

Jimin nodded. Or you could just date me and I’ll make you food all the time. Jimin thought in his head. He then blushed and hoping Namjoon didn’t notice. He was really glad he didn’t say that out loud. “Sure,” he said instead.

He showed Namjoon what he was doing and explained each step. It was really an easy meal. He was very conscious of his proximity to Namjoon the entire time. He wanted to be close to him, but at the same time, he didn’t want to overstep a boundary.

When Namjoon was chopping the garlic, Jimin was genuinely concerned that Namjoon was about to cut off his own finger. Jimin really didn’t want to witness that so he stopped him and showed him the correct way to hold things. When he finished, he was embarrassed at how close he had gotten to Namjoon.

The soup ended up being delicious. After they had eaten, things had become a lot more relaxed. They were talking more comfortably. Jimin told him a lot about the way he had been brought up and in turn, Namjoon did the same. It was interesting how they were both very different but somehow still the same.

Eventually the conversation and Namjoon sighs. “Cooking was a lot of fun, but I really prefer baking.”

“Why’s that? Not as many knives involved for you to chop off your fingers with?” Jimin asked sarcastically.

Namjoon laughed, “No. Except kinda. It’s easier.”

“Really? I don’t do a lot of baking,” Jimin admitted.

“I could teach you how to make something,” Namjoon suggested.

“But we just ate,” Jimin said.

“Yeah, like an hour ago! It’s time for dessert.” Jimin laughed, he couldn’t say no to sweets (or to Namjoon). Namjoon led them back into the kitchen where this time Jimin stepped back and let Namjoon take charge.

They made banana bread which was kind of fun to do. It was supposed to take a really long time to bake, but Namjoon just used a bit of magic to speed it up. Jimin was a bit impressed, to say the least.

Unfortunately, this recipe didn’t include chopping things up or anything where Namjoon would have to “help” Jimin. He was a little bit upset by this and he wondered if maybe he was wrong about Namjoon liking him. That was until the bread finished baking.

“Okay, no for the fun part!” Namjoon exclaimed.

“You mean the rest of that wasn’t fun?” Jimin asked.

Namjoon pulled out a large white bag from his pantry. “Powdered sugar!” He announced.

“What do you do with that? We already made the bread?” Jimin asked.

“You do this,” Namjoon said. He scooped out a bit of the sugar using a spoon and carefully started sprinkling on top of the loaf of bread. Jimin watched in awe. He had never considered doing this to banana bread. “Here, you do some,” Namjoon said, handing Jimin a spoon.

They continued spreading the powdered sugar until the entire thing was covered. “I think we’re done,” Jimin said.

Namjoon nodded. “Yeah me t-” he stopped mid-sentence when he looked up at Jimin.

“What? What is it?” Jimin asked.

Namjoon blinked, “You’ve got a bit… of sugar on your face.”

Jimin felt embarrassed, he knew the stuff had kind of been going everywhere, but he had no idea how much of it was actually on him. He wiped helplessly at his cheek. When he looked at his hand there was nothing there.

“Here,” Namjoon said. “I got it.” Jimin was suddenly aware what was happening. Namjoon had taken a few steps closer to him, and now he was leaning in.

Jimin wasn’t sure if he should close his eyes, so he kept them opened and watched Namjoon gradually get close enough kiss his nose. He wasn’t expecting him to only kiss his nose. He was a little disappointed, but that was nothing compared to the butterflies he felt. Namjoon pulled away and they made eye contact again. “Are you sure you got everything?” Jimin asked, trying to get him to kiss him again.

Namjoon grinned, catching onto his little game. “No… there’s more here,” Namjoon said, kissing his cheek next. “And also here,” this time his kissed the corner of Jimin’s lips. Then he pulled away once again. “But that’s all,” Namjoon said.

Jimin couldn’t help but pout. Namjoon was being such a tease. “You know… what they say about witches is true,” Jimin started.

Namjoon raised his eyebrows at him. “Oh?”

“Yeah… they’re total assholes,” Jimin said right before surging in and kissing Namjoon right on the lips. They were sugary and sweet. They both pulled away after a second. Jimin was grinning triumphantly. Namjoon was blushing.

“What they say about fairies is true as well,” Namjoon said.

Jimin frowned, “What do they say about fairies?”

“That they’re the most beautiful of all.” Now it was Jimin’s turn to blush, but thankfully it didn’t last long because Namjoon connected their lips together for another kiss. Jimin tangled his fingers through Namjoon’s purple locks and it felt just as soft as it had looked.

When they pulled away again, they kept their foreheads pressed together. Jimin noticed how much taller Namjoon was - he decided he liked it. He liked looking up into Namjoon’s eyes. He could hardly believe he was a witch. Everything he had ever been told about witches was contradicted when it came to Namjoon. He was cute and sweet and caring and Jimin just wanted to kiss him some more and also play with his hair forever.

And so he did. “You’ve gotta tell me what shampoo you use,” Jimin said, and then he kissed him once more.
