I'm so glad I found this little story again. I first stumbled onto it when I was a teenager and was just starting to read fanfic, and I don’t think I had even seen Buffy at the time. And I was a ferocious l’il baby!kinkster, but didn’t have the words to put to my feelings yet. And so finding this little angsty riff on Xander playing with Spike’s belt was a seriously formative, aha! moment for me.

Yes, the Spike is a wonderful person who deserves her freedom and all that good shit, but I'm just saying -- locking her in a room with a supply of snacks, beverage, and a computer full of inspirational porn would *also* be nice.
