Chapter Text
Charlie feels conflicted
On one hand, he now understands how his long time best friend could be so judgmental regarding the Cullen's
On the other, he hates that his instincts have steered him wrong this time
Or have they?
The Cullen's, even Emmett who attacked him don't seem to really WANT to hurt people.
But isn't that what a monster is? A creature that can't help but hurt people.
It's not just himself he has to consider but Bella as well.
Wait. Does that mean all of the Quileute legends are true? Never mind
Charlie decides that he and Bella should keep their distance.
Neither are happy about it truly. Charlie is better at dealing with it because it was his decision
He tries to reconnect with Billy
Billy isn't smug and doesn't hold being right about the Cullen's over Charlie
But he is genuinely hurt that Charlie wouldn't listen to him and was willing to choose the Cullen's over him
Charlie tries coping by throwing himself into his work. Not much happens in their area. Most deaths are accidental. Or wildlife-related.
There's been a string on missing hikers and animal attacks that keep him busy.
It isn't until he's the first one on the scene when a body is found and gets a good look at it that he realizes
There's no blood
There's a bite wound on the body and no blood
He calls Carlisle
