Love: Un-leashed!

Chapter 2: Friendship!

Summary:

In which Jade runs late yet still manages to fall asleep- again. It’s cool though. It’s all fine. This is going swimmingly, this is the perfect friendship ever and totally isnt like your first new face to face friend in what? Three, four years?
Maybe that’s an exaggeration but Jade feels like a breath of fresh air from the constant dude-bros and office workers. Nothing against them though! Promise.

Notes:

Sorry if this seems ooc but uh yeah this was meant to be slowburn but. Brain go brr ig. Idk still trying to keep it kinda slow tho

Chapter Text

You were beginning to think you were being stood up. You have been sitting here for what, an hour now? The coffee you had picked up was getting cold sitting beside you, your dog off her leash. It was safe of course- no big dogs were out and she herself was too scared to go too far from you. It was nice watching her run around, barking and biting at the wind- so cute. Your thoughts were drifting from topic to topic as you waited, the gentle breeze brushing against your skin as your leg bounced- you kept checking your phone, just in case but nothing came. It was a boring hour, which soon turned to an hour and a half, which soon turned to two- but you had hope, despite people having played such cruel pranks before.

And of course your waiting paid off. Jade didn’t seem like the type to stand you up- and for once your gut was right. Her hair was a curly mess, pulled up half way and half down, her glasses kind of crooked as Bec nearly half dragged her along. She seemed to have brightened up when she saw that you were still there, she gave you an excited wave as she hurried to come sit beside you- she laid her hand down over your’s as she groaned, leaning back against the bench. Bec had left her by now, going to sniff around your dog instead- nudging her with his snout before deciding to sit out in the grass with your dog.

You on the other hand wore a bright blush, somewhat weirded out by Jade’s uh.. hand placement. Why was she touching you. Why did she take so long. It’s getting dark now, it’s getting colder,, but you couldn’t bear to chance upsetting her so you instead just take a long drink of your cold ass coffee, focusing your attention on the dogs. It was kind of adorable, seeing the two so friendly with each other- most big dogs hated your dog, but Bec seemed different. Jade’s groaning finally stopped with a huff, Jade wiggling told sit up with her slightly shitty posture, looking over at you with a goofy grin.
“No questions? No, ‘why are you groaaaning, why are you so late?’” They paused for a moment after the weird look you gave them after the voice change. As a second thought they added with a giggle, “That was my you impression by the way.”

You nodded as if it all suddenly made since, trying to fight back your own smile. “Ah, thanks. That clears up a lot. Why are you so late though- I uh, wasn’t going to mention it but- now that you have,” You were getting increasingly more and more embarrassed with each word, rubbing a bit at your neck as you felt Jade’s eyes on you.
God, why was she so set on eye contact and shit? She was so intimidating, geez..

“Oh! Yeah, probably should have opened with that. I kinda- fell asleep?” She sounded kind of embarrassed, which was honestly a relief to you- glad to know she wasn’t just made of confidence and positivity because if so, you were about to get really tired, really quick. You opened your mouth to say something snarky before she held a finger to your lips.
“Shhh- not finished. If needing my beauty sleep isn’t enough reason to nap, I kinda just,, pass out sometimes? Doctors say it’s narco-something. Cant really remember.” She shrugged, dropping her hand- which you were now realizing was the hand that was on top of your’s, so you were eager to move it- wiping at your mouth with the back of your hand.

“Okay, thanks for telling me I guess.” You sounded annoyed but you really weren’t- you just didn’t know what to say. God, this was difficult. You could have sworn things weren’t this hard when you were younger. There was a moment of silence between the two of you before you looked towards Jade.
“So like- I had you a coffee? It’s cold now but uh. Yeah.” You handed her the cup, which she took gently- looking at it with kind of narrowed eyes, seeming to think for a moment before taking off the lid and downing the caffeinated beverage. She tossed the lid and cup into the trash can beside them, wiping her mouth with her sleeve before giggling. It was a quiet, soft giggle but it was interesting none the less- you tilt your head at her.
It took a second before she noticed you staring at her, but when she did she smiled.
“Iiiii’m technically not supposed to have coffee? Or like anything with caffeine but like.. especially coffee and energy drinks and stuff! Makes me sleepy.” She didn’t seem too bothered by it, smiling all goofily- so you guess it must not be anything too horrible.
You did note not to get her anything caffeinated in the future though.

“Ohhhh. Sorry, didn’t know- guess you didn’t wanna waste it, huh?” You sounded sheepish, smiling down at your shoes. She shook her head, not that you could see it.
“Nah! I just don’t get to drink it a lot since you know- sleepy stuff. Thanks for getting it for me,” They said some stupid nickname stemming from your name, but you didn’t really care enough to listen to it- though it did warm your heart a bit as you began to realize just how nice this was.
It’s been forever since you’ve been out so much.
“I guess I can get you some more next time? Unless you want me not to..?” You weren’t really sure what to do here right now. What’s logically good for her or what will get her all smily like this- Jade didn’t seem to know either, her shrugging in response as she leaned her head a bit against your shoulder.
Her hair smelled nice. Not that you were smelling it of course-! That would be weird. But the curls were just so big they ended up in your face and you know, you have to breathe... this is fine.
This is totally fine. There’s nothing weird about your friend of what, a month or so using you as a pillow. It’s probably your own fault though, you did give her the caffeine- the dogs looked at you as if you laugh, softly barking as their tails hit the ground.
Nothing weird about how nice the sun looked setting behind the houses and the hills, the sky cast with oranges and pinks and blues.
You opened your mouth to mention how pretty the skies were and how a certain cotton candy colored cloud reminded you of a flute before you heard a soft snore from the lady beside you.
You legally can’t move now. Good job, you're here until sleeping beauty decides to awake from her slumber.
It’s cool though, you know she’d probably do the same for you. Friends are cool like that, right? Friends are awesome.
