Chapter Text
It took longer than Obi-Wan would have expected for Master Dooku and Komari to return with his stuff. He didn’t have much, just his class work, clothes and a small model ship, every member of their clan had made one when learning the different parts of ships, they were even allowed to keep them after. Master Si didn’t seem worried about how long the pair were taking, in fact he seemed happier than Obi-Wan had ever seen him before, even if he did still seem very tired.
“I don’t expect much will change to start with, you’ll still have all your classes to attend and you’re not old enough yet to go on any missions. But I’ll add in some meditation time for the both of us, and I’m sure Yan will pester me incessantly until I schedule in some time for him to give you saber lessons.” Master Si was explaining as the pair of them were making a timetable for Obi-Wan.
“What about the ambassador stuff? Are there lessons for that?”
“Not as such, but older padawan are able to choose some of their lesson subjects. We can tailor your choices to best fit. Specific types of history lessons, languages and negotiation tactics are normally a good pick. You don’t need to worry about them just yet though.”
“Ok,”
“Oh, and I’ll also have to give you access to our quarters, and might as well add you to Yan’s too. I have no doubt he’ll try to steal you as much as possible. You’ll probably end up spending a fair amount of time with him while I’m stuck in council meetings. I hope you won’t mind?”
“Of course not,”
“Good good, and I’m sure I’ll have to fit in some time for you to talk to Jaster, he did mention in the council meeting he’ll be sending over some Mando’a modules and their history modules for you.”
“Really? That would be amazing,”
“Perfect. Then of course we’ll have to timetable in for the Mand’alor to come visit, and you to go visit them too.”
They were interrupted by the arrival of Master Dooku and Komari. The latter of which had a couple of bags of what looked to be his stuff, the former had his hands full with several trays of food.
“Ah, thank you Yan dear.” Si said when the plates of dinner were set out on the table, Komari digging in quickly and ignoring Master Dooku’s chiding of lack of manors.
Dinner with the four of them was not all that different to what Obi-Wan was used too with his friends. Normally it was him and a couple of his friends talking about classes or homework. Here Komari was talking about her lessons or missions, Master Dooku Si answering her questions for explaining something. He was more than happy just listening to the other three talking while they ate.
The strangest thing was his new braid. It was only short, no longer than the rest of his hair, although he hoped it would grow quickly. Master Si had added a single bead to it, the first one which every Padawan gets once they were accepted by a master. It made him jump almost every time he moved his head and he felt the braid and he couldn’t help but fiddle with it.
Much to Komari’s displeasure, both Master Dooku and Komari left shortly after dinner, with a promise of visiting as soon as possible.
His new Master took great pleasure in showing Obi-Wan his new room and gladly spent the evening unpacking Obi-Wans clothes and other belongings.
He had just finished unpacking when he noticed another bag in the corner of the room. It was the bag Jaster had put his clothes in. Picking it up it seemed a bit too heavy to just have his dirty clothes in. Confused Obi-Wan opened it, quickly putting his dirty clothes in the hamper to wash.
Under them he found several other things. The blanket which he had used while on Jasters ship, several tunics in a similar style to the one he was wearing at the moment. Several more pockets of shig and even a container of what looked like uj’alayi.
“Oh, I think Jaster left some of his stuff behind.” Obi-Wan said, Si looking up from where he was reading something from Obi-Wans desk.
“Really? Oh dear, are you sure he didn’t leave this for you?”
“For me? But there’s a lot here, and this is sons’ blanket.”
“Mmm, well you still have your comm correct? Why don’t you give him a call before it gets too late? You might be able to catch him before he goes off planet.”
Obi-Wan rummaged in his belt for the comm, finding it easily and plugging in the charger on his desk while he remembered.
The comm hadn’t even completed a full ring before it was answered.
“Ob’ika? Are you ok? Do you need me to come back?” Jaster sounded slightly worried and Obi-Wan felt bad for disturbing him.
“I’m ok, sorry if you were busy. Just, I think you left some of your stuff behind, I didn’t want you to lose any of it.”
Jaster chuckled “I left the bag for you Ob’ika.”
“Oh, but there’s a lot of stuff in it.”
“It’s not that much.”
“But it’s your sons?” Jaster chuckled before answering,
“He’s outgrown all the clothes, and he hasn’t used that blanket in years. I’m more then sure he’ll be happy for you to use it.”
“If you’re sure?”
“Positive, and if will make you feel better, we’ll say you’re borrowing it until you can give it to him. I’m sure he’ll appreciate it being in good hands.”
“Thank you,” Obi-Wan muttered. “W-would you say thank you to Jango too please?”
“Of course I can Ob’ika. I’m sure you’ll be able to meet him soon too.”
“Really? Do you think he’ll like me?”
“I’m sure he will, I’ll probably have to ban him from skipping out on his duty to go find you as soon as I mention you.”
“Ok, sorry for interrupting you.”
“Never be sorry for that, I’m very happy to be interrupted by you. Now, I’m sure you’re tired, you’ve had a couple of long days. Go to bed adiik, I’ll speak to you soon.”
“Night Jaster.”
Obi-wan added the extra clothes to the wardrobe. He probably wouldn’t wear them around them temple seen as he had Jedi robes. But they were comfy and maybe he can wear them when he visits Jaster. The blanket he laid over the bottom of the bed, he hoped that his Master wouldn’t mind it.
After a quick goodnight to Master Si Obi-Wan settled down in his new room, remembering to send off a quick message to Dex to let him know that he got back to the temple safe and sound before falling asleep.
The first morning as a padawan was a lot calmer then he was used to. Normally Master Peiia would be waking up the clan, and hurrying them all for breakfast. Now, after his alarm had woken him, he dressed to find Master Si with tea and breakfast ready for him. The Master looked a lot better from a goodnights sleep.
“Good morning, Obi-Wan, did you sleep ok?”
“Yes Master, it was still a bit strange sleeping in room by myself, but I think I’ll get used to it quickly. How are you feeling?”
“Much improved thank you. Now, I’ve got a council meeting this morning, but it should finish before your classes do. If you need me, feel free to comm me or even Yan. Do you remember the way to your classes from here? Or do you need me to walk you over.”
“I remember,” Obi-Wan said as he finished off his breakfast, “Would it be ok for me to leave now? I’d like to see Bant and Garen before classes start.”
“Of course, have a good day.”
“You too Master!” Obi-Wan called as he left their quarters, quickly making his way towards the refectory he knew his friends would be eating at.
There was a strange tension in the air when Obi-Wan entered the refectory, the normally noisy room was instead filled with multiple whispers. Like all the initiates were trying to talk about things without the masters knowing. And judging by the Masters all muttering between themselves something big had happened. Obi-Wan had the sinking feeling his conversation with the council might have had something to do with it. He didn’t notice Master Peiia with the other crèche masters, although he wasn’t that upset about that. What was concerning is that he couldn’t spot Bant or Garen. Normally the three of them always sat at the same table, but his friends weren’t there.
Casting a panicked look across the room it took him several moments to locate his friend, they were sat at a table with another boy, he looked to be slightly older than them.
It was Bant who noticed him first.
“Obi!” her shout alerted Garen and Obi-Wan didn’t have time to brace himself before he was practically tackled by the pair of them, who quickly dragged him to their table.
“Where have you been?! We were so worried; you didn’t come back from the senate then Bruck said you’d run off in the temple but we were sure that we didn’t see you on the way back. We tried telling Master Peiia but she wouldn’t listen. Then you didn’t turn up the other night and Master Peiia was called away the next day! And then some scary master comes to take all your things away!” Bant paused to breath and Garen managed to get his hand over her mouth before she could start talking again, giving Obi-Wan a chance to answer.
“Well, I sort of got lost at the senate, but I managed to get back this morning. It was Master Dooku who picked up my things, he’s not scary really.” Obi-Wan wasn’t sure how much he was allowed to tell his friends, and made a mental note to ask his Master.
“Of course, he’s not scary,” the boy Obi-Wan didn’t recognise said, “He’s terrifying!”
“Oh yes, Obi-Wan, this is Quinlan Vos, were in a clan together now.” Garen said.
“That’s the other thing!” Bant interrupted, “All the crèche clans have been reorganised! We’ve got two masters per clan as well. I don’t remember which clan they said you’d be in, but me and Garen are still together. I’m sure we can get you to join ours!”
“I, I don’t think I’ll be in a clan –“
“They’re not going to kick you out just for getting lost Obes. I’ve done far worse than that and they haven’t got rid of me yet.” Quinlan grinned at him.
“It’s not that, Master Si asked me to be his Padawan.” There was a moment of silence, where the other three’s eyes all went straight to where is tiny padawan braid was, before Bant squealed and leapt to give him another crushing hug.
“Yay! That’s so good! What’s he like? Is he nice? Do you think we’ll get to meet him?”
“He’s really nice, and he gets visions too so he’s already been helping me with them.”
“You must be one of the youngest initiates to have been chosen.” Quinlan, “and before you escaped at the senate too? I obviously have to up my game.”
“I didn’t do it on purpose,” Obi-Wan tried to defend, looking around to see if he could spot Bruck, curious as to what happened to him too. “Where’s Bruck?” he asked once he had given the room a good once over and not spotted the boy.
“He was called away by one of the healers yesterday, he’d been put into another clan so we’re not sure what’s happened yet.” Garen said, “Why? is he why you went missing?”
“Sort of? I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to say, I’ll check with Master Si and tell you tomorrow?”
Garen took a moment to think before agreeing. “You’re still in our classes though? Even though you’re a fancy padawan?”
“Of course, you can’t get rid of me that easily Garen.”
He quickly fell back into his normal rhythm with his friend and Quinlan, who fit in with their group surprisingly well. Heading towards his first lesson of the day Obi-Wan couldn’t help but think how well everything had turned out from his adventure. He was now a Padawan, with two Masters, he’d get to see more of Jaster, the force was very happy and hopefully he's managed to fix what ever future the force had been showing him before. Maybe he should listen to the force a bit more closely from now on, the force sung in happiness at the idea. After all, what could go wrong?
