Chapter Text
Anya and Siobhan had been friends since middle school. Granted, Siobhan had always wanted them to be something more, but it took a catastrophe to finally get Anya to notice how special Siobhan was to her.
When they were in high school, Anya had made contact with a ghost. At first, she thought they were friends, but it turned out that the ghost was much more diabolical than she seemed.
The night that Anya had finally rid herself of the ghost, she called Siobhan. They had been fighting ever since Anya started spending time with Emily, the ghost, over her best friend.
“Siobhan? Dammit, Siobhan, pick up!” Anya said, walking in the pitch black back to her house after returning Emily’s bones to the well.
She called about a dozen times on her way home. She knew Siobhan was ignoring her. Or asleep.
When she got home, she fell into bed out of exhaustion, not even trying to take her bra off before drifting asleep.
Anya woke up to the sound of her phone buzzing. It was a text from Siobhan.
“Jesus, Anya. Desperate, much? ;P”
Anya smiled. She knew the more sarcastic Siobhan was, the happier she was.
Anya invited Siobhan over that night. Her family was asleep, she figured she could wait until tomorrow to tell them everything that had happened.
She saw Siobhan’s shitty red Saturn parking down the street. She watched Siobhan’s figure get bigger as she walked into their lawn and started whisper yelling “Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou, Romeo?”
Anya shushed her with a smile, then watched her climb the tree and slide not so gracefully into Anya’s room.
“in this situation, wouldn’t I be Juliet calling down to you?” Anya said as she pulled Siobhan from the ground.
“Oh, so now you’re a Shakespeare expert?” Siobhan said, wiping the dirt from her pants and sitting on Anya’s bed. “So what’s up?”
“Siobhan, I got rid of her.” Anya said. Siobhan raised her eyebrows, showing off mild surprise. “I’m sorry I was so shitty to you.” She said.
“It’s fine.” Siobhan said somewhat convincingly. “Besides, you have the rest of your life to make it up to me.” She said with a smirk.
It was with that smirk that Anya first realized that she might have liked Siobhan. From then, all it took was a simple reading up on the word ‘lesbian’ and Anya was set.
She and Siobhan dated for the next couple of years, coming out to their parents the night that Siobhan proposed. It was difficult, and they hadn’t exactly warmed them up before telling their parents they were marrying each other.
They decided to have a child not long after their marriage, and eventually got a one year old from Russia named Stenka. They always wanted to have their own child, and soon after, began the process of in vitro fertilization. Their youngest was born soon after, and they named her Olga, after Anya’s grandmother.
Since having children, Anya and Siobhan had settled down. They both gave up smoking and tended to curse much less. Anya became somewhat of a health nut, while Siobhan remained a connoisseur of the finest chips and sodas you could find.
They were prepared to have children similar to how they were as adolescents, but not for the children they ended up with.
Both worried that the children lacked socialization, especially Stenka, being a teenager. They tried their best to encourage friendships at school, but it just didn’t work. They considered moving to a larger city, to get away from the forest, but when Olga and Stenka found out, they threatened to run away.
Anya worried that they spent too much time in the forest. Even she sensed a weird presence laying beyond the forest edge. Both Anya and Siobhan knew that mysterious forces existed, from their experiences as teenagers.
They rarely spoke about Emily, and never once in front of the kids. They had no idea what kind of supernatural things existed, but Anya was worried that if they didn’t find out soon, something bad could happen to them in that forest.
