Work Text:

"I need to ask you two things." The Queen finally spoke when they are alone. It had been a few days since her husband had returned, and they both knew this conversation had to be made. Normally such difficult conversations would be the Prince's business, but what was normal in their lives now?

The Prince only nodded, seemed tired and much older than he actually is. This fierce war inevitably added new lines to his once handsome face. "Okay."

"First, is that you stop making me promises you know in your heart you can't keep?"

He nodded once again. His head fell down. "And the other one?"

Rhaenyra came closer to him and put her hands on his chest. "Come back to me," she said almost crying, "live through this battle and don't let the Greens cost me you."

Daemon stroked his wife's hair with his hands, then pulled her to himself and placed a long kiss on her lips. It was the only emotional kiss they shared in a long time and they both could set the Seven Kingdoms on fire to make this moment last forever.

Despite everything, they spent their last days together with their children, just like before the war. There was a truth that everyone knew but no one spoke: No one could have fought Vhagar and expected to survive. Princess Rhaenys was the best person to experience this in recent history.

Two weeks later, she did not burst into tears when she heard the news of her husband's death.

"My uncle never made me promises he couldn't keep." Queen Rhaenyra said as the news had arrived.
