Chapter Text
Winn points at Mike. He vividly remembers the man’s funeral. Kara and James telling Winn of his teammate’s death. How is this man standing in the doorway to the hospital room.
“Who are you?” Winn asks. “Michael Matthew Daxam, CIA operative. Lieutenant Danvers, Sergeant Olsen, we’ve got to talk.” Kara and James share a knowing look.
“Why should we go with you?” James asks. “How can we even trust you?!” Kara asks. Mike whimpers. “What is going on?!” Winn yells.
Kara sighs. “Mike betrayed us when we were stationed overseas. When you were being tortured, he was working for them.” Mike holds his hands up. “There was a greater force in place as to why I even did that.” “Mike, it better be a good one.” James says.
Winn worshiped the ground that Mike Daxam stood on. He worked with the guys who kidnapped him.
“If anyone here has the right to demand an explanation from Captain Daxam, it’s me and maybe Kara. James, I get that he betrayed us, but his team tortured me. I spent two weeks in the damn hospital because of what they did to me. You and Kara just came to my rescue and blew him up.” Winn exhales.
Alex points at the door. “I’m gonna head out. Wedding stuff!” "Stay!" Winn yells. Alex groans and sits down.
Winn glares at Mike. "Tell us. The truth. You're really a CIA operative?" Mike nods. "Yes. May I enter?" Winn nods. "Yes. Alex, can you call J'onn and verify him?" Alex sighs and nods. She texts J’onn.
Kara sighs and looks at Mike. “Go on.”
“We’re looking for Toyman. He stole BL1GhT. A biological weapon. It could kill millions and start an epidemic. Toyman has it.” Winn grimaces. He glares at Mike. “What did that have to do with yo-.” “He had just stolen it recently. When I betrayed the team was when Toyman broke out of prison. My team wanted a more extreme approach. We faked my death to get me out of the squad. Unfortunately I lost my leg in the process of doing that. He lifts up his leg.
A prosthetic is there. Kara clenches her jaw. “Did you shoot Winn?” Mike sighs. “Toyman has made a mask that is to my likeness. He must’ve stolen reports or something. I have an alibi for last night. I was with my wife and the rest of the squad in Seattle. I arrived today. I’ve visited a bakery and Oliver Queen’s bar I returned back to the city to report to the higher ups.”
Alex looks up from her phone. “J’onn said he’s verified.” The group stares at Mike.
Kara sighs. “I am going to go process this.” Mike nods. Kara leaves.
Winn sighs. “I haven’t talked to my father since I was six. Why would you or the government think I’ve contacted him.” “He could’ve contacted you. Found you.” Win crosses his arms. “Well, I’m glad you tortured me to find him.” Mike sighs and leaves.

Kara sits in her truck. The door opens. “Nice truck.” Kara looks at Mike. “I’m gay and I never liked you.” Mike nods. “Okay, thought that. I apologize for my behavior in the Marines. I was playing a character to get close to Winn.” Kara nods.
She looks at Mike. “What do you want?” “Help. We have tracked Toyman to Washington. Here is where he is going to release it. The virus. BL1GhT is something that we need to act on. We believe he’s fled to the city. We need you and James, and especially Winn to help us.” Kara stares at him. “Let my sister and Brainy help too.” Mike sighs.
“I’ll see what I can do about that. Brainy is a good asset. He used to be in the CIA. Don’t worry, he never worked on Winn’s case. Didn’t know of Toyman’s existence. He focused on threats from Russia.” Kara nods.
Kara sighs. “Well, Eliza’s with Sam right now, can we bring Ruby?” Mike sighs. “She can stay at HQ with Winn and Brainy. Away from the action.” Kara nods. "Of course."
“Kara, this is a dangerous mission, there are many ways it can go wrong. Are you sure you want to do this?” Kara stares at Mike for a moment. She thinks of Lena. However, Lena will be in the city. In harm’s way if Toyman releases the BL1GhT.
Kara smiles. “I’m up for it, Mike. It means that I’m keeping people safe.” Mike nods. “Alright. I’m going to talk to your team and mine. We’ll coordinate.” Kara nods. Mike gets out of the truck.
Kara drives home. She gets there just as it turns dark. Her house is lit up. Colored lights are strung over the porch and along the roof. Lights line the drive way, illuminating as Kara drives by. Kara parks and leaves. She goes up to the door.
A wreath is hung on the door. Kara smiles and goes inside. The house smells of gingerbread. Kara looks around. Some garlands are hung up, but nothing major.
Kara enters the living room. Jack has Andrea leaned against him as a cheesy romcom plays. Jess is eating a gingerbread cookie as she watches it from the floor. Kara clears her throat. The three look at her. “Where’s Lena?”
“Jack! Is Kara here yet?” Lena walks down the steps.
Kara’s jaw drops as Lena comes into view. She’s wearing a maroon wrap around dress that hugs her body. “H-hi!” Kara manages to get out. Lena laughs.
Kara takes off her coat. She removes her winter clothes. “I like the house.” Jack chuckles. “Took us a while. Thanks.” Kara smiles and looks back to Lena. “You guys are leaving tomorrow, yeah?” Lena nods. “Sick of me?” She asks with a grin.
Kara stares at her. “No.” Lena grins.
“We made gingerbread!” Jess blurts. Kara smiles. “Alright. I thought so.”

Lena glares at Jess as Kara looks at the gingerbread in the other room. “Really?” Lena asks.
Jess scoffs. “You were undressing each other with your eyes. You’re lucky I didn’t have a spray bottle.”
Jack laughs. “I’m glad she stepped in.” Lena rolls her eyes. Kara returns. She joins Lena on the loveseat.
“Is it cold in here?” Jack asks. Kara nods. “I can build a fire.” Kara gets up. She leaves the house.
Jack whistles. “Lena, you are dating a lesbian lumberjack in disguise. Get a woman to build you a fire and, well, I don’t know the saying. Is there a saying about women and fire?” The group laughs. Kara enters with a box of matches and paper. “Old stuff I’ve been meaning to burn. Plus had to get matches from the garage.
The group watches as Kara fixes paper and wood in the fireplace. Kara lights the fire and pokes it back with a stick. Kara smiles. "And we're good to go!"
Kara returns next to Lena on the loveseat. The romcom that Jack had put on ends. Kara smiles. "You guys want to watch a classic? I texted Alex and this is the only thing she likes watching next to Die Hard." The group laughs.
Kara goes to one of her streaming platforms.
The door opens. "We're here, sorry we're late!" Alex, Sam, Winn, James, and Ruby enter with an older woman.
Kara greets them. Alex whispers something to Kara. Kara nods and forces a smile.
Kara returns to the living room and adjusts a recliner for Winn. Lena watches Kara work to make her friend and the older woman comfortable at their respective chairs.
Everyone settles in, Alex and Sam are on a large couch with Andrea and Jack. James is in the middle, separating the two couples. Winn is on a recliner, the older woman is sitting in an arm chair with Ruby sitting next to her, Kara and Lena are on the love seat, and Jess is accompanying the couple on the love seat.
Kara looks around. "Anyone want anything?" Alex groans. "Just start the movie." Kara nods and grabs the remote.
Jack looks at Winn. "How are you doing?" Winn nods. "Better, I'm here. Got put on bed rest." Winn reclines back. He adjusts his blanket. "I am actually comfortable now. Kara, can I stay the night on the recliner?" Kara glances at Lena. "You're comfortable?" Lena nods. "Yes." Kara smiles.
"Yeah, sure, I don't mind." Kara smiles. "I love the lights, Kara." The old woman comments. Kara smiles. "Thanks, Eliza. I didn't do them." Andrea nods. "Yep, thanks to the convenience of a scene change helped." Eliza nods.
Lena looks at Kara. "Eliza?" Kara nods. "My foster mom. Alex's actual mom." Lena nods. Kara puts an arm around Lena. Lena leans into Kara's arm. "Let's start the movie, shall we?" The group agrees. Kara turns on Home Alone.

Halfway through the second movie, Kara gets a notification on her phone.
Unknown: Meet me outside. Garage.
Kara smiles. She gets up. "I'll be back." Kara calls Krypto. Krypto stands up from in front of the coffee table and follows Kara. Kara grabs her coat. The two go outside. It's dark now and Kara's house looks amazing.
Kara whistles as she goes to the garage with her dog beside her. Mike steps out from behind a tool box. Mike picks up one of the spark plugs that came out of Lena's car. He looks at it.
"You're living with Lena Luthor?"
Kara crosses her arms. "She's staying at my place for the wedding."
"She's a suspect."
"Why? Her family name?" Mike sighs.
Kara crosses her arms. "Lena isn't like her family."
Mike nods. "You do know that her last girlfriend was arrested for tax evasion and you know what Lex had done with Musk." Kara nods. "I know, I know about both. I wrote an article on Lex and Musk. I tipped off the authorities before I published and wrote it. I know. She was not involved in it." Mike nods.
"Well, if I'm right, don't let it cloud your judgement when we go to Seattle." Kara nods.
A woman enters the garage. A woman who Kara doesn't know. Krypto barks. Kara holds his collar. "Don't release him! She's with me!"
Kara looks at Krypto. "Sit." Krypto sits, keeping an eye on the two.
Kara nods. "Hey, you are?" "Imra Ardeen. I work with Mike. Married and then divorced." Kara nods. She chuckles. "I wouldn't strike him as your type." Imra laughs. "We met in training." Kara's face falls.
"I am sorry." Imra laughs. "Don't, it was for the mission. Besides, we were in the middle of our divorce." Kara chuckles. "Was it the idiocy?" Imra nods.
Imra smiles. "At least he has good taste in women." Kara nods. "Yep." Mike clears his throat. "Um, still here." He raises a hand.
Imra nods. "Yes, um, we're heading back to the city. Come on. Brainy's in the car. Smart decision on bringing him in." Kara points. "Thanks for approving us to join you. I would like to get back to my movie night." Imra nods. "Yes, Brainy and Nia mentioned that to us. We'll see you and the others tomorrow." Kara nods. The three part ways.
Kara looks at Krypto. "Come on, let's get some wood." Kara goes onto her porch. She picks up some pieces. Kara reaches for the doorknob. James opens the door.
He leaves. "What's happened?" "Mike and his ex showed up. They're heading to Seattle." James nods. "We'll see them tomorrow?" Kara nods. "Yeah, I'm leaving at like five to get up there early." James nods. "Yeah, you have the um, the weapons?" Kara nods. "You guys don't have to leave when I do." James nods. "Yeah, got it." The two go inside.
Kara adds to the fire.
She sits next to Lena. Kara adjusts their shared blanket. It's almost at the end of the movie. It's the Rockefeller tree scene. When Kevin and his mom reunite. Kara smiles.
The movie ends. Ruby is asleep next to Eliza and Winn's already snoring. Alex picks up Ruby. "We'll see you guys later." Sam says quietly. Eliza follows Alex and Sam out. Andrea, Jack, and Jess get up from their seats.
Jack waves. "Night." They leave. Lena looks at Kara and heads up the stairs.
James starts preparing himself a bed on the couch. James smiles. "No funny business." Kara picks up a pillow from her loveseat and throws it at James. "You too. I'll see you in the morning. You know the safe combo." James nods. "Yeah, and if it's bio, take a gas mask?" "Yeah." Kara goes up the stairs and Krypto follows her.
Lena's door is open. Kara knocks as she enters the doorway. Lena has changed into a silk robe.
Kara smiles. "No shower?"
"I showered while they made gingerbread cookies." Kara nods and glances at Lena's legs.
Lena gets out of the bed. She adjusts her robe. Kara grins and starts backing up. "Well, I am going to go shower if you would like to join me?" Lena grins. "Oh? Hm, perhaps I would." Kara smiles. "Really, Ms. Luthor?" Lena grins and she lets the robe fall down. Kara stares at her body.

Kara stares at Lena after they’ve been settled after the activities. Her face is warm in the small lamp light.
"I have to leave at five in the morning. Work." Lena smiles. "Cat couldn't give you a break?" Kara smiles. "Journalism never sleeps." Lena chuckles.
Kara kisses her. "I did enjoy this while you were here. Maybe when we go back to National City, we can keep our shenanigans up." Lena smiles.
Lena runs her fingers through Kara's hair. "Since you're from Washington, any tips for when we go to Seattle tomorrow?" Kara grins. “Well, there’s a lot of bars. Do that at night. On day one maybe go to the mall and day two go to the art museum. Sam has taken up painting.” Lena nods. “Thanks.” Kara grins.
Kara smiles. “Care if I stay?” Lena smiles and cups Kara’s face. “Yes.” The door opens. Krypto walks into the room. He jumps onto the bed.
Lena laughs as Krypto makes himself a spot between her and Kara.
Kara glares at her dog. Kara rubs his head. “You’ve been a great wingman until now, you know.” Krypto grumbles and moves to the foot of the bed.
Lena laughs and then yawns. “He's been a good wingman." Kara smiles. "Good night." Lena smiles. "Night." She turns off the lamp.

Alex sighs. She looks at Sam. Sam pushes a hair from her face. "What's wrong?" Alex smiles. "I'm just tired."
Sam nods. "You taking Ruby to airsoft still?" Alex sighs, she should not tell her future wife classified government information. Oh well.
"We're going to Seattle. Kara's ex boyfriend showed up. There's a threat to National Security." Sam nods. "The dead one?" Alex nods. She sighs. "J'onn, Brainy, and Winn are going to be at Mike's headquarters. I don't want Ruby to feel left out by leaving her with my mom, may she stay at the headquarters. It will be the safest spot for her."
Sam nods. "Yes, you can take her. I trust that you can protect her." Alex nods. "What are you doing for your bachelorette party?" Sam sighs. "Lena wants to go to Seattle, has our driver and everything lined up. Will we be safe to go?" Alex sighs. "Yes, you should be. The threat is relatively low. J'onn just wants us to check up on it." Sam nods. "When are you leaving?" Alex shrugs. "Hopefully nine?" Sam nods.
She cups Alex's face. "I love you." Alex smiles and rubs Sam's hand. "I love you too."
