We’ll do it all
Everything
On our own
Buck and Eddie were slow dancing in the garden behind Abuela’s house. They had just come back from Eddie’s cousin’s wedding and both men were dressed in their suits still. Christopher was inside, already asleep after having too much cake at the reception and crashing. Pepa was there and although they hadn’t announced their relationship to anyone, his aunt always seemed to know everything. She had sent Eddie small, knowing smiles throughout the day, even going so far as to whisper in Eddie’s ear that she was happy for them. Thankfully she hadn’t said anything in front of Buck. Eddie knew he was scared of how everyone would react and wasn’t ready to announce it.
We don’t need
Anything
Or anyone
Buck stared deeply into Eddie’s eyes, seeing nothing but truth, adoration, and pure love. This is the most relaxed both men have ever felt. Eddie’s arms were wrapped around the blond’s lower back with one hand on his hip while Buck’s arms were tangled around the Latino man’s neck. Swaying back and forth to the music, it was clear to outsiders that they didn’t have to say a single word to know what the other was feeling at that moment. Eddie leaned in to kiss Buck, slowly and yet all at once. It was a profoundly intimate moment as their lips met. Their love was gentle and kind, fierce and passionate. Unbreakable.
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
The two firefighters moved to lay on the ground. They broke apart and fell into one another as Buck tucked himself into Eddie’s side. Their bodies were made for one another. Eddie positioned his torso for his boyfriend to lay on top of, providing a safe refuge within his arms, free from his demons near and far. Once the man rested his head just right, Eddie gently ran his fingers through the other man’s hair as they began pointing out the different constellations.
I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel
Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough
Neither of them had audibly said the words yet but it was quite obvious how they felt. It was said in Buck’s gentle kisses in the morning, brushing their lips together as a greeting before they left the house. It was said in the way Eddie sat closer than ever to Buck making sure there was always some kind of physical connection between the two as Eddie knew it helped to ground the man. It was said in how Buck did their laundry, sorting it and folding it exactly how Eddie liked. It was said in how Eddie could tell how Buck felt about any given situation with just a glance. They didn’t have to say anything to know the other felt the same.
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life
As long as Buck and Chris were okay, Eddie would be happy. He had what he knew was the love of his life in his arms, Shannon be damned. Looking back, he could tell he married her out of a moral obligation beaten into him by his parents. It was the only option he had available. He threw away every longing and questioning thought for the guys in his class, bending down on one knee for everyone to see. They had already talked about it and she’d agreed for the same reasoning. It was for the baby and they’d learn to love one another along the way.
Buck, however? He was entirely unexpected, unplanned. He was blindsided by the depth of his feelings for the curly-haired man. Maybe that grenade all those years ago had brushed against one of cupid’s arrows.
All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see
As soon as he slid into Eddie’s embrace, Buck felt his fears of judgment, of hatred, of abandonment fall away. No matter what consequences, he knew in his bones that it was worth it to love Eddie. He’d take every injury he had a million times over just for one second of the true peace he felt in that moment. He pulled his head off of his boyfriend’s chest and repositioned himself so they could lock eyes.
I don't know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all
“¿Cariño?”
“I love you.”
Eddie’s breath stuttered, knowing how much it took for the other man to say that. Buck had gone through so, so much shit throughout his life and understandably kept his feelings to himself after each attempt at a relationship left him more broken than before. Eddie pulled the man closer and rolled on his side, allowing their faces to meet.
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?
“I love you so much it hurts, Evan. I’ll love you until the end of time and space itself. To our own infinity, no matter how big or small.” Buck’s lips met Eddie’s, gentle like a butterfly’s first flight. They backed away and returned to their original positions, tucked into one another perfectly, content to lay in their now-stained formal jackets. They held one another under the dark star-filled sky as their hearts filled with a sense of belonging, of being. They were home.
