“Your name is Buck?” Eddie asks, watching as Buck carefully nodded “My boyfriend’s name is also Buck.”
“Oh,” Buck sighs as he carefully lifts Eddie. “How— hum, What is he like?”
“Oh,” Eddie’s face lights up instantly “Buck is the best boyfriend in the world!” He adds with a warm smile “He’s kind, and he’s funny, and he’s smart, and he’s so beautiful. I swear to God, he’s the most beautiful man on earth.”
“Oh yeah?” Buck asks softly, a discreet blush growing on his face.
“Buck, stop fishing for compliments,” Hen mutters as they load into the ambulance.
“He wants to tell me about his amazing boyfriend Buck, just let him."
“You’re taking advantage of a concussed man,” Hen retorts.
“He’s keeping him alert,”
Or, Eddie has a concussion, and he can't recognize Buck.

“Customer satisfaction is high on our priority list,” Buck repeats in the cabin of the fire engine, “Why did I say that” he says with his head buried in his hands.
“I think the worst part is when you almost fell flat on your back” Bobby says through his headset.
“Can’t believe I missed that part.” Chimney laughs with Hen and Ravi.
“Guys it’s not funny, I’m normally alright talking to people, I just had to talk to his kid to stop from going bright red.” Buck says, making them all cackle more.
“Buck, I think you just got a bit flustered, he was attractive, and I like girls.” Hen tries to comfort him.OR
Eddie keeps needing the firefighter. Which is how he meets buck, everything moves pretty fast after that, but Eddie has a secret that everyone except Buck knows.

Eddie doesn’t know what compels him but the words fall out of his mouth before he can catch them. “Can we dance?” He asks, softly, almost like a whisper. He really needs to dance. He feels restless. He’s worried about Hen, he’s worried about his feelings towards Buck, he’s pretty sure Chris made friends with the high school stoner so he’s worried about that, and on top of it all, his car is showing the check engine light so that’s just another thing on his plate. He needs to just put all his attention to dancing.
“What?”
“I mean,” he sputters. God, this is embarrassing. He is a fully grown man feeling like he’s on the brink of a panic attack if he doesn’t dance. “No it’s okay, um- miso cod sounds great.”
Buck cracks a small smile. “You want to dance?”

And all of that was why, on their seventeenth day on Mars, Buck had shoved Eddie out of the way during the emergency evacuation, knowing it meant his own death instead of Eddie’s. Buck trusted Eddie to help get everyone else home, and Eddie had someone to go home for. Someone who needed him and loved him. Someone who Buck loved, even without ever meeting. He wasn’t going to let Chris grow up without a father. So in the split second he had to think after seeing the communications dish flying at them through the storm that was chasing them off the planet fourteen days early, he’d pushed Eddie out of the way, hoping like hell it would be enough and knowing he wouldn’t live long enough to find out.

But when he did turn, his brain short circuited.
