Maximilian asked Riftan months ago to marry her. Fake of course, she just needed to get out of her father's house, but with times how they are, and her father, there would be too many questions if she left and lived on her own. Too much gossip would follow her around that marrying someone, even if it was fake was better to get away from his grip.
