“Pick me up at eight,” Percy agrees and, with a crooked grin, grabs him by the collar of his shirt to pull him in for a quick, deep kiss. A whisper before they part, those sweet three words that make the divinity beneath Apollo’s skin lurch and flare, transporting his headspace into the rollercoaster or, rather, the hurricane that is Percy Jackson and the hold this half-human, half-god boy (man) has on him, “I love you.”
I love you.
And Apollo smiles and kisses Percy’s busted knuckles (from a fight with an especially provocative legacy of Mars, because some things will never change) and says, “I love you, too.”
_______________________Apollo and Percy, the never-ending question of whether their relationship is doomed to tragedy, and the inevitable answer that yes, it is.
