"...You've gotta be kidding me."
"What's the matter?"
Soul walked up from behind him, and Boyfriend showed him what was currently on his phone's screen.
"Oh, nothing, just the weather report saying there's supposed to be some small storm passing through here overnight. No big deal."
Soul hummed and stared at the screen for a moment, before shrugging.
"I'm not... too worried about it... Besides, sometimes they get it wrong and it ends up just being a few drops of rain."
As Soul began to walk off, Boyfriend walked over to the window in the room, looking at the dark cloudy sky outside.
"A-Are you sure, Soul? Because it really looks like it's about to rain out there..."
"Ehhhhh... I'm sure we'll be fine."
5 hours later...
He was not fine. He was very, very much not fine.
The flashes of lightning and the (currently still faint) cracks of thunder that followed close after never failed to make him jump and shiver.
He currently had a blanket tightly pulled around himself, still shuddering after the last burst of lightning.
Soul was currently sitting next to him on his bed, tense enough to the point that he almost resembled a rosined bow.
Eventually, after another lightning strike followed a little too closely by a clap of thunder, he sighed, before turning around and looking up at BF.
"Alright, hold on, I have an idea."
He then took an extra blanket that hung off the end of the bed and draped it over him, almost so that it became a sort of tent.
BF just stared at him quizzically.
"...What are you-"
"I just... thought it'd block out the light and noise a bit better, eheh."
Boyfriend paused for a second, before pulling his own blanket off of him and scooting over to sit closer to Soul, and the latter then draped the blanket in his hands over both of them.
"Feel a little better now?"
Boyfriend sighed in relief.
"Yeah. Thanks."
And Soul was going to respond with a "no problem" - but a strike of lightning still made itself apparent even through the dark blanket, cutting him off, and Boyfriend quickly let out a startled "BEEP" as the thunder roared in the distance again and he clung to his friend tightly, Soul quickly wrapping his arms around him.
"...I don't think I'm going to be able to go to sleep tonight."
"I kinda figured that. ...Wanna just stay here and try to ride it out?"
BF nodded, and Soul pulled him closer.
10 minutes later...
Being the bundle of anxiety that he currently was, Boyfriend had yanked out his phone after another flash of lightning, trying to find out when the hell this storm would pass.
He took one look at the weather forecast for the rest of the night, and almost immediately let out a groan.
"What time is this supposed to be over?"
"...Not until like 5am..."
He sighed, and let himself fall back onto Soul, his face now buried in the latter's shoulder.
"We're never getting sleep..."
"Bee, nothing's ever stopped you from staying up until the crack of dawn before... Besides, I'll be right here with you the entire time. It'll be 5am before you even know it."
"...Alriiiiiight, fine. Doesn't mean that this'll be a fun 4 and a half hours, though."
"We'll live."
"...If you say so..."
30 minutes later...
Well, Soul was right about one thing.
They were both still alive.
It still didn't stop Boyfriend from violently flinching with every lightning flash that could still be visible even from under the two's little (somewhat) blanket fort.
But, at the very least, he was grateful that he had left the TV in the room on before all of this happened.
It was at least minimizing the light flashes that came from the lightning outside the building - the sound from the show being played almost managing to drown out the noise of the thunder.
Not to mention that he had physical comfort in the form of Soul holding him close, their arms wrapped around each other in a small cuddle.
All was going well...
...For about another 20 minutes, anyway.
Because suddenly, the light and sound from the screen outside the blanket began to flicker, before going off completely.
...There goes the electricity.
Boyfriend was quick to check his phone.
And along with the electricity, out went the WiFi...
He really wished he had been able to get a generator of some sort long before this.
But now there was nothing left that could help lessen the very foreboding presence of the weather outside.
A couple lightning flashes struck right after the other, and Boyfriend was quick to let out another "BEEP" and tightly cling onto Soul again, but he had felt the latter flinch as well - though he wasn't sure if it was from the lightning or from Boyfriend's sudden movements.
"Sorry..."
"You're fine."
15 minutes later...
"...You know, now that the electricity in here is out, I'm really glad that you actually glow. It's kind of cool now that I think about it."
At that, Soul let out a slight chuckle.
"Hehe, what, do you need me to be your night-light again now?~"
"Pfft- no, no, I'm just... kind of glad that I'm not completely in the dark."
"I know, I know, I understand that. I was just teasing."
"Dork."
Soul crossed his arms and gave him a knowing look - Boyfriend already knew his response, and it was enough to get him to let out a small laugh.
...At least until another flash of lightning and a rumble of thunder came to ruin the moment.
30 minutes later...
With a decent amount of time having passed, the two still managed to hold up well rather well despite the storm outside.
Sure, BF still flinched and instantly gripped onto Soul with every lightning flash, but they were getting through it.
However, Boyfriend couldn't help but notice that Soul was starting to flinch more with every strike.
"...Soul?"
"Hm?"
"Are you okay? You keep flinching and stuff, dude."
Soul paused for a few seconds, before a (slightly nervous) smile appeared on his face, and he was quick to try and wave off the question.
"What are you talking about? I'm f-fine."
"You stuttered."
"I did not."
"I swear I heard you-"
"Bee, seriously. I can take a little bit of lightning, this is nothing."
"...Are you su-"
And then a few flashes of lightning suddenly struck along with a very loud roar of thunder, and this time both of them screamed and clung onto each other.
After a moment, the two parted slightly, and after realizing what had just happened, Boyfriend shot Soul a smug smile.
"...'This is nothing', huh?"
A small white blush spread across Soul's face as he looked away.
So much for trying to be macho about this.
"Shut up."
"You know it's okay to be scared, right?"
Soul sighed, and muttered something in Japanese that Boyfriend could barely hear before he buried his face in BF's chest, getting the latter to let out a tiny giggle again.
"Like you said, 魂... 'I'll be right here with you the entire time.'"
"Yeah, yeah."
40 minutes later...
The lightning and thunder didn't seem to be stopping any time soon.
Judging from how loud the thunder was, it seemed the storm was right on top of them now.
But that didn't stop the duo from finding ways to pass the time, despite still clinging tightly to each other shaking with every lightning strike. Whether it was exchanging song ideas or Soul pulling out his guitar to keep them both going, it was working.
Currently, the two were sitting next to each other, listening to the surprisingly calming sound of the rain hitting the window outside of their blanket.
It was silent, up until Boyfriend felt a sharp poke on his side, and as a result, squeaked out a little beep.
He quickly glanced at the entity next to him - he was the only other person here - only to see he was relatively relaxed, staring off into space.
So, he passed it off as an accident, that Soul didn't realize what happened.
It wasn't long before Boyfriend felt yet another poke at his side, garnering the same reaction plus a small giggle and a nervous smile starting to appear - and this time it was followed by a tiny, faint little snicker coming from next to him.
"Soul, whahat are you doing?"
A pause followed, before Soul gave him a mischievous smirk, and poked him in the side again, speaking as if he were trying to feign innocence.
"What are you talking about, BF? I'm not doing anything~"
...Yeah, he knew exactly what he was doing.
With each poke, Boyfriend yelped, giggling even more despite him trying to hold his laughter back.
"Yehes you are-! Pfff- Soul, cohome on!"
"What? I'm just bored~"
And with that sentence, came another poke.
God, Soul could be such a teasy little shit sometimes. (affectionately, of course.)
"Thihis isn't boredom, this ihis being mehean!"
Soul began poking him even more, causing him to let out more squeaks, beeps, and giggles.
"You know, I really can't understand you when you're laughing so much, Boyfriend. You're gonna have to speak a little clearer..."
"Thahat's because yohou're- BEEP- pokihing me, you dohork!"
"Still don't know what you're talking about..."
At this point, Soul was now using both hands to poke him, and all Boyfriend could do was attempt to curl up while laying on the bed to block out the pokes (which didn't even work and only trapped him further) while trying to either block Soul's hands or push them back, still very giggly from all the poking.
However, Soul was much faster than him, avoiding his grasp enough to swiftly go back to poking him.
"Wow, so you're telling me you can dodge a corrupted Pico in Nexus form trying to stab you a million times no problem, but now you can't even dodge my pokes? That's unfortunate~"
"Shuhut up! Thihis is- BEEHEEP- differehent!"
After a few more pokes, Boyfriend finally managed to get ahold of Soul's wrists, sitting up and quickly pushing them away from his sides before Soul could get any more pokes in.
He took a second to catch his breath, a few residual giggles pouring out of him.
"Yohou're a menace. You're ahan ACTUAL menace."
Soul just shrugged.
"Not my fault I'd rather see you happy right now. This is just the easiest way to make that happen... plus I get to tease you about it~"
"Jerk."
And then Soul gave him that same mischievous smirk from earlier, before using his tail to poke BF's side - getting another 'beep' squeaked out of him.
A short pause followed.
"...Soul, don't you d-"
Lightning struck, and the two quickly clung onto each other as the thunder roared over them.
Once the duo's panic subsided, Soul let out a sigh.
"Tch. Just had to ruin my fun."
"Hey, I already know my weakness is yours too. So you BETTER not still be bored or I WILL start poking you back."
One very impulsive "try me" later and that was exactly what he did.
35 minutes later...
Boyfriend opened his phone to check the time.
And proceeded to groan in annoyance when he saw that it was currently 2:50am.
"Bee, we're already a little over halfway there from when you last checked the time. We've just gotta hold out for a little longer."
"I know, but... ugh. This wait isn't exactly a nice one."
As if on cue, a lightning strike lit up the room again, making the two shudder and cling to each other a little bit. But, it didn't slip by them how the thunder wasn't as loud as it was before...
"...See? The storm's starting to pass. If we give it a while, it'll be gone, and we can actually get some little amount of decent sleep, alright?"
"...Wait, what if the weather forecast changed and it's gonna be around for even longer? It'll take forever for us to get any amount of sleep if that's the ca-!"
"Bee, it's okay. I know we're both getting scared shitless, but we have to relax. We made it through the first half, we can make it through the rest, okay? We'll both have each other the whole time, at the very least."
Boyfriend thought about his words for a minute, before shaking his head fondly and letting out a sigh.
"Okayyyyy, okay... I'm really glad you're so motivational sometimes, you know that?"
Taking advantage of the fact that neither of them had their hats on, as he had said that, he ruffled Soul's hair slightly - it was a gesture that always got his friend to let out a few tiny giggles and it was never not adorable to see.
"Yeheah, yeah, it's part of my job, silly."
BF playfully rolled his eyes, before removing his hand from Soul's hair and letting himself collapse against him again (though careful enough to not let the tiny blanket fort collapse), with his head resting on his chest.
"This is more cozy..."
"...And you're calling me a dork."
"Shut uuuuuuupppp..."
25 minutes later...
The two spent most of the time clinging onto each other, their hold only tightening whenever the lightning visibly struck again.
Everything was fine. They were still holding out. That was good.
It was, once again, mostly silent between the two until they saw a red light appear through a tiny open hole where the end of the blanket laid on the bed.
The two briefly looked at each other, before lifting that side of the blanket up so the room outside was visible.
And standing there was Girlfriend, in her own PJs.
"Gigi? What are you doing here?"
"Well, my parents usually come up to my room to comfort me during storms so that I'd fall asleep, but for some reason I just couldn't tonight. So I may or may not have faked being asleep for a while so they wouldn't come into my room, and since I don't think Pico would answer his phone at this hour, I decided to come here. I thought we would... well, all need the comfort now, eheh~"
Girlfriend gave the two a sheepish expression after finishing her explanation - lightning struck again and all three of them shuddered.
"...H-Heh, sooooo... got room for one more in there?"
And BF and Soul, still sitting on the bed with now slightly blushy faces, gave her a warm smile.
"Always."
The lightning struck once more - again, making the three shudder.
"Miiiight wanna hurry up, though."
Girlfriend gave a slight giggle as she sat on the bed under the two's blanket, and they lowered it so they were isolated again.
"I should've figured both of you would be scared, you are somewhat the same person."
"Oh, I know."
"Bee, shut up."
"Anyway, I've missed seeing you two boys together! It's been a while since I've been around with both of you again."
She was quick to hug both of them as she spoke - yet another flash of lightning tried to interrupt the sweet moment, but failed, seeing as it made the three cling to each other tightly.
Only once the panic had faded away and was out of their systems, did Boyfriend begin to speak.
"...So, uh, babe?"
"Hm?"
"How was riding out the storm for like, 5 hours?"
"Ehhhh... well..."
Girlfriend began to explain, and the three began talking for a while after that, still flinching from the storm outside but continuing to find comfort in each other.
The storm eventually left earlier than it had been forecasted to, only for all the drowsiness from not sleeping to hit them like a truck.
And seeing as GF was too tired to even bother teleporting back to her parents' house, she decided to stay there and sleep alongside the two.
That morning, Girlfriend was the first to wake up, thanks to a text from her dad asking where she was.
Boyfriend and Soul were still asleep on either side of her.
She took one look at the text, and silently sighed, tossing the phone aside before looking down at the two sleeping next to her, closing her eyes and enjoying the moment she was currently in with a smile on her face.
...Her parents could wait an extra 20 minutes.
