Damian Wayne-Al Ghul is expected to be more than he is, to live up to a legacy. Is Batman still his father? Is he more? Or less? His family isn't just family. They're saviors; heroes and the ones that kick him under the dinner table. They think he's always angry. He is not.
Jon tells him he can be who he wants, teaches him about abuse, self-harm and death—the little things in life his family is uncomfortable with. He forces him to treat himself with gentleness. Marinette believes in him, a lot, and loves him without needing anything in return.
That belief in him, that knowledge, is all he needs to change.
