Annabeth blinked owlishly as Percy slammed her introduction to architecture book closed, clearly taking a moment to remember where she was. “What?”

“It's time to take a break.” Percy held the book shut.

“What? No!” She snapped out of study mode and back to reality. “If you want to keep your fingers, Seaweed Brain...”

“You've been studying all day.”

“I need to ace my exams. There's this one guy in my intro class that thinks he's hot shit, and I have every intention of making him eat every snide comment he made this semester.”

“You literally redesigned Mt. Olympus, Wise Girl. This guy doesn't stand a chance. But classes are over, exams aren't for another week, and I made lasagna for dinner. It's time for a break. We can make an early night of it, then head to the beach tomorrow.”

Annabeth started to object again, then paused. “Does this have anything to do with the latest flood?”

“I've been trying to get you in the ocean all semester.” Annabeth stared at him. Percy broke. “So the timing might be related. Hazel was kinda annoyed with me earlier.”

“What did you do? I know the garbage in the river pissed you off, but this is the third flood in two months, and you're not that petty.”

“Fourth,” Percy mumbled.

“Percy! I'm surprised the praetors haven't hung you from a cross by now. What did you do?!”

“I found the river Naiads—they live in a really nice grotto just upstream of the camp. And I might have convinced them to stand up for themselves and not take disrespect from the legionnaires.”

“Oh, gods.” Annabeth covered her face with her hands, muffling her voice, and Percy couldn't tell what her tone was. He really hoped she wasn't upset.

“And now some of the legionnaires have figured out that throwing shit in the river is a good way to get maneuvers canceled.”

Annabeth's shoulders shook, and giggles finally broke through. “Fine. You win. We'll get you out of Dodge tomorrow. But you need to come up with a way to fix this. We both need to spend the rest of this week studying.”

“Yes, ma'am.”
