Chapter Text
“I’m so sorry… Robin… please forget me”
The light from above began to fade away as Sunday sunk further and further into the trench his family had made his final resting place. He knew this would happen, knew that if he spoke out against his father he’d be cast out. Not once did he ever think they’d decide such a cruel fate for the siren. Leaving him for dead after he swam too close to the sailors. He got curious… one look was all he wanted. They could’ve spotted him! He knew it was foolish, a momentary loss in judgement. He got caught…. And became an example of idiocy for his family. What not to do when faced with sailors who avoided manipulation by song. He thought the embarrassment would be enough of a punishment.
However, his father saw no such need for a son who could cause harm to the rest of the family. Robin, his kind loving sister… turned away in shame at the sight of him.
His arms hurt from the net binding him. His tail stuck making it to where he couldn’t swim away from the currents, taking him further and further away from his home, or what once was his home. Drowning was not a threat but starvation was. A long tortuous death for a fool like him, what he deserved. He closed his eyes accepting his fate.

It had started off just like any other day. The past year has been great with the doctor. Sure, he doesn’t remember much from before his time with Ratio but something told him that it was leagues better than what it used to be. Him and the doctor clicked instantly; it felt like he'd known him forever. Aventurine couldn’t have wished for anything more.
Aventurine and Ratio were walking around the lighthouse doing some routine check ups. It was part of the doctor's job as the lighthouse keeper to make sure everything was in working order. The sun was setting, casting a light glow to the two lovers. Ratio was talking about his recent studies and thesis while aventurine simply listened and offered input every now and then. It was peaceful, relaxing.
They were about to head inside, aventurine was probably going to get dragged into the bath by his weirdo lover, when the blond saw something out on the shore.
“Hey, uh, ratio do you think that could be something beached out on the sand?” Aventurine said while pointing at the sea creature.
“Most likely, let us go check on it then hopefully return it to the water” ratio then headed off to the shore leaving Aventurine to catch up. When he got there he swore he heard Ratio mumble “Not again….” which is weird so it’s probably nothing.
When he looked down he saw a really rough looking, beat up… siren.

The universe is playing a cruel joke on him. He was looking down at another merman, and his injuries looked worse and more time consuming than Aventurine and that took weeks to heal. He’ll have to give up his bath damnit.
“So what should we do with it ?” Aventurine crouched down to inspect the merman like he had. “Sheesh he has sea vines and netting stuck all around him, it’s a miracle it hasn’t cut circulation anywhere, but damn it is cutting into him.” Aventurine had moved the merman’s hair to inspect his wounds. “He’s not waking up… is he alright?” Aventurine’s voice was filled with worry.
“He’s most likely asleep to survive, like this I imagine getting food is impossible,” Ratio would rather not go through with this again but… “We’ll take him inside… and I’ll dress the wounds…” He would have to give up his bath again… Aventurine would probably not take it kindly if he shared a bath with another like he’d done with the blond. He can’t just leave this person here however, who knows what else he could be suffering from.
“The Dr. Ratio is giving up his bath time?! How noble of you dear doctor” Aventurine chimed in from beside him, his voice had a teasing tone.
“Shut it. You know I’ve done this before… even if you do not remember-“ shit, he can’t let the hurt in his voice slip. He wants so desperately for Aventurine to remember everything, but if it means that he stays with him… he can agree the deal was worth it.
“Help me settle him in a way that won’t cause any more severe damage to him while I carry him up to the lighthouse.” He had already begun to start analyzing where the thorns and nets were most prominent.
After some time they had managed to carry the merman to the bathtub in the lighthouse. “Get me some scissors and anti infection, I want to remove the net and thorns to better see what we’re dealing with” Ratio knew how severe this could become if left untreated.
“Wow… that took forever… kudos to you doc I would’ve messed it up.” Aventurine said with a light smile. Ignoring the blush trying to form Ratio cleaned up his supplies. What once was a merman looked like a mummy now with how many bandages had to be placed on him. “It’s best to let him rest. Hopefully he’ll be more susceptible to help when awake, but with fear and pain I doubt it.” Ratio could already feel the headache forming.
“I’m sure it’ll be okay love, let’s head to bed.” Aventurine offered his hand and Ratio took it with a small smile. “I’ll try to trust you on this.”
